I get pain during sex, and especially when I have an orgasm (afterwards I get really sharp "cramps"). My doc said it could be endo, or I could be sensitive to sperm. Weird, huh?
And yeah, exams are excruciating! That's how the ER docs and ultra sound women came to the conclusion of endo.

I get really bad pain during the first 30sec-1min where it feels like somethings ripping and then the rest of sex is great...the worst of it is like 2min after sex and it feels like someone is ripping my organs out.

Hi ladies, I know its been a while since anyone posted on this thread but since I'm new here I thought I'd share. I have such extreme pain with sex and exams its completely unbareable. Every time I have a pap done I have tears streaming down my face, and I haven't had sex in 8 months because the pain is just too intense. At first my doctors blamed my birth canal, saying it is curved to the right, but I argued that point since it shouldn't matter whether its curved since it is flexable. Then they told me it was all in my head. I do agree to a point that I obviously my brain has made a connection that as soon as anything gets near there I tense up. My specialist then told me its a condition called vaginismus (sp??) where the muscles in the vagina as well as the pelvic muscles contract to the point that it closes up as though to not let anything in. When something is then forced (during exam) it causes excruciating pain. I still haven't had a doctor tell me that its because of the endometriosis, but I never had any issues until I started being tested for it. Pain during sex is one of the major symptoms. Still I'm not sure whether the vaginismus is an excuse to call it something else... they always thought I was 'too young' to have endo. God I hate doctors most days....

Even though the endo just grows right back, a lap can still be helpful. For instance, I had large endometriomas on both ovaries, and if those had burst it would have been a medical emergency and most likely caused irreversible damage to my fallopian tubes. Through the lap, those endometriomas were able to be removed.
Also, there is an increased chance of getting pregnant for about six months following a lap, so it can be beneficial for ttc.
As you are well aware (based on your family history), ovarian cancer is nothing to mess around with. It would be a hard diagnosis to deal with - but would you rather catch it as early as possible and be told "you have ovarian cancer, but it is treatable" or would you rather wait and be told "you have late stage ovarian cancer. I'm sorry, there is nothing we can do for you"? I definitely think the latter is the worse option.
Also, even though the endo grows back, the growth can be slowed by taking birth control or drugs such as Lupron. There are definitely options out there for delaying/slowing the growth.
Honestly, my lap was painful. There's no denying it. But it's not something you can't handle. The pain does subside over time and the scars are minimal. I was nervous about having surgery as well, but I'm extremely happy I did it. First, I'm happy because I have a definite diagnosis; Second, because I can now get the emotional help I need and move toward the next steps in trying to get pregnant and start a family.

Hello everyone. I thought I would just jump into the thread because of an recent experience I had. Yesterday I had an pelvic exam and pap done. I have been having them for about ten years now and until yesterday have never had a problem. The whole exam was extremely painful the pap was l little painful but the pelvic exam was the worst. You know the part where a couple of fingers are inserted vaginally and the doctor pushes down on you abdomen. Holy cow that hurt!!! . That has never happened before and I was quite surprised. I have been having pelvic pain everyday for months now and after the exam it has gotten worse. It feels like hardcore menstrual cramps but I don't have my period and today it is still killing me. So I found this post and decided to add my story. Has anyone else had this problem recently? Rin

As for me, I don't really get pain from exams etc, but as it turns out my endo is apparently pretty bad, my new excellent specialist is not looking forward to my op, it's pouch of douglas with lots of fusion of ovaries, uterus & bowel. Yet, the only excruciating pain I get is period pain.

Today was the first time I had pain on examination. I think nerves made it worse but the speculum was a no go and the whole thing was painful, which I don't remember before. She was very considerate tho my doctor today, whereas a doctor who examined me last year shoved the speculum in. Male, with blood on his clogs, so go figure he was most probably a horrid pig anyway. Did anyone feel like the pain continued after the exam, as though you had 'set something off' or have an echoing sort of pain up in your stomach? I'm fine now though, and it made me realise how quickly things have changed in my body xx

^Yes! The pain used to continue for me after the exam, as well!!! I used to dread driving across railroad tracks or anything bumpy after an exam!!!

Yeah no fun for me either, resembles the pain caused by sex, and it lingered longer.

Hi Michelle =) I'm a Michelle too. I can definitley relate to your fears of surgery. I have something similar to IBS called Crohn's disease, as well as Endometriosis. I only have pain with sex with my Endo when I have that wierd ovulating pain. Sex almost seemed to help me forget about the pain when it came to my intestinal problems.
I was misdiagnosed many times for both diseases and had to have part of my intestines removed because it was so bad once they found it. (the surgeon found a little Endo on my Appendix also) They only found the Crohn's after I came to the ER practically dead because I was tired of them misdiagnosing me with hemeroids, and ignored it as much as possible. Just last year I actually had to stay in the hospital because of pain that I thought was my crohn's but the colonoscopy revieled it wasn't. They said I must have had a nervous breakdown (BULL!), because they couldn't find anything else. I have read, and experienced that intestinal problems and Endo present the same symptoms. I just wish Endo could be diagnosed another way than surgery =/
I know you're scared to go under the knife, but in my opninon a scar is much better than suffering, or not knowing. At least if you get the lap, you will either verify or eliminate a possible cause. My first lap is scheduled on April 9th; I'm very scared but I want it more than anything. Go for more tests in my opinion. We know when something isn't right with our bodies, and sometimes going untreated can whatever it is worse. I hate how we have to convince our doctors we are suffering, but we do. We shouldn't have to suffer like this. Good luck and best wishes to you =)

Sex hurts! My pain location (as best as I can describe it) feels like it begins exactly on the outside of my upper right vaginal wall. ONLY ON THE RIGHT! (weird)... So sex hurts... from mild penetration to deep penetration (deep penetration is a NO NO!) Sorry for being so descriptive here but even when my b'f's penis just barely rubs the right side of my vagina, the other side of the wall just feels wrong. It feels like it's rotten and raw. Sometimes it's not that bad. It's all about the angle... and usually if he starts slow I get kind of used to it and numb to where he can finally go at a normal pace. Even if it doesn't hurt that bad during sex... after always aches. Burning jalepenos. I dream of the day that sex won't hurt! I dream of the day that I can actually get into it!

HA!! I have those same dreams!! I can't have sex at all anymore... the raw burning became totally unbearable, and I would be sore for hours (sometimes days) afterwards to the point that I knew I wasn't walking right! I had the same type of pain as you do - but it just kept getting worse over the years. Have you talked with your doctor about that pain?

Yeah I have... first he thought is was my appendix ( ) and sent me to have a CT scan. The CT scan revealed an orange sized cyst on my right ovary... which made him forget completely about the pain w/ sex thing lol...but whatever. We'll find out during my first lap on the 24th! I am 40% excited, 50% nervous, and 10% FREAKED OUT! lol
