Hi. I am 24 yrs old, and was just diagnosed with endometriosis early this September. I have been having bad periods pretty much since my first period when I was 10. Heavy, long, and painful. I was put on birth control at 16 to try and control them, and it worked for seven years. When I was 23- last year- I was taken off of them because they had started giving me headaches and my periods were getting heavier anyway. About two or three months later the pain started. And it has continued for a year. I was checked out be three different GP's, four different OB's, and a gastroenterologist. I was told that " you just have heavy periods" and that "you need to just get used to it". Finally my new (the third one) GP refereed me to a different ( the fourth) OB and she took me seriously. She immediately said "That sounds like classic endometriosis". I am having an ultrasound this week and a lap in December after my classes let out- I'm in my last semester of graduate school and just can't risk missing class. My symptoms are pain in the abdomen and pelvis, constipation, heavy and long- 10-14 days long- periods, back and hip pain, and did I mention the pain?

Hi there, I am very sorry to hear of your situation. I can imagine that it is interfering with your school as well. Hopefully when you have the lap in December you will get a definitive answer and hopefully they will be able to remove some of the endometrial tissue. I am planning on have the Mirena IUD placed soon. I am hopeful that this will help with my cramping and flow. You might ask your OB about this as well.
Best of luck! Hang in there!

Thanks Luv2trav. I was wondering if anyone knew, if I start some sort of treatment before the lap, will that make it more difficult to diagnosis? I was also wondering if anyone else has pain above their belly button?I get bad pain there in addition to my pelvis and lower abdomen. got my surgery date- 12/21

so i had my surgery yesterday. Horrible experience with the hospital. I was there at 10:45 for an 11:45 surgery. However soon it was 12:30 and I still was waiting. The nurses were ignoring us. We managed to snag one at 1, who said that she would look into it. we could hear her on the phone, and after the phone call, she just walked right past us, didn't even look at us! At 1:15 we were told that the doctor ws running late, and would be here at 1:30 (she wasn't even in the hospital). The dr showed up at 1:40 still in her coat, not scrubbed up and said that the or was backed up...she was here all along. so we got two different stories. I was take in finally at 2:00
She found endo on the uterus only, and said that it is stage one. I had trouble coming out of the anesthesia and did not leave the hospital until 7. I hadn't even peed yet, but they let me go because my mom is a nurse.
