Hello everyone,I had a laparoscopy a little over 2 months ago and endo was found. My Dr said she did not feel comfortable removing some of it due to its placement next to my colon. She basically told me at the post op that it would be live with the endo or have a colostomy. I have no other complaints with my Dr except that. Anyway since having my lap I have fully recovered from the surgery but still have a little discomfort where my navel incision is. Even worse though is that my endo pain has become constant. Every day I have had severe cramping for at least a portion of the day. I am on my second cycle after my surgery (and am on the NuvaRing) and am experiencing probably the worst period pain I have ever had. I don't know if this is due to the inside of my body still recovering from the lap or if I really need to seek a second opinion. I did have 3 or 4 places of endo removed during my lap (my Dr said that they were so small she didn't understand how they could be causing all of my pain...) I don't know what stage they were but I'm assuming stage 1. I also have a tilted uterus which (thank goodness has nothing to do with my endo) led to my lap being done in the first place. I have been on some form of birth control for 5 years and only in the last year or two have I experienced pain quite like this. I am feeling very down about myself at the moment because of my pain and also because I am worried about my chances of having a child in the future. I want to seek a second opinion with a specialist but I'm nervous to schedule the appointment if it is too soon after my lap. Everyone on here is so helpful and kind. If there is any advice I would love to hear it!

Hi, yes, you need a second opinion. And you need a new doc. 'Live with it or have a colostomy' is NOT an acceptable option.
Did she burn or excise what she found? It can take up to 12 weeks for things to heal internally, depending on how invasive she was. If you're still in too much pain an it's unmanageable I don't think it's too soon to seek a second opinion.

Thanks for your support! She excised my endo mostly on the one side. I don't think she burned any of it. She wasn't very in depth with me at all in my post op so it's hard to say what was done unfortunately. I am considering going to a specialist because I want to make sure now that I have a positive diagnosis it is handled correctly. The only other treatment option that has been presented to me so far has been Lupron, which I am not comfortable with at this point unless there is absolutely nothing else that can be done. Maybe another doctor could be more creative.... I don't want to go through more pain without any gain.

I agree, a second opinion isn't a bad idea at all. It might give you some other options to consider. I'd also encourage you to get a copy of your medical records from your surgeon, including a copy of your surgical report, so both you and the second opinion really know what was done.

I agree with the other ladies that a second opinion sounds like a good idea. Aside from the "live with it or have a colostomy" remark, the comment about not understanding how you could be in so much pain raises a red flag, as does her not going over your surgery in much depth.

I agree completely that I need a copy of my medical records. Also, do you think getting a general family doctor could potentially help? I don't know what you guys have found out from other doctors outside of the gyn field but that is another option I am considering. Thank you all so much for your support thus far!! I requested an appointment at a specialist center so we'll see what that holds for me!

Hello everyone. Just wanted to post an update kind of to keep my thoughts straight in my own head. I had my appointment with Dr. Yeung yesterday. I wish that I would have gone to a specialist from the beginning. He was so incredibly knowledgeable about endo pain and it was a great comfort to me. In preparing for this appointment I have also come to realize many of my doctor's short comings by getting a copy of my medical records. I should have done that from the beginning. I was told that my endo was excised at my post op appt but while reading the surgical report I found out that she was actually using ablation which does explain a few things. Also, she did not biopsy my lesions so there is no 100% proof that it is endo although everyone thinks it is. My doctor never showed me my photos from my surgery but showed them to my mother and fiance while I was in recovery. When I went to my appt she said that she had forgotten them in her car!! Anyway... it was great to not feel crazy while I was explaining my symptoms and I felt like he really spent a lot of time with me yesterday. I have a second lap scheduled with him in October and I can't wait to maybe get some relief!!!

So glad you went to someone else and have a comfort level with your new doc. That makes such a difference, doesn't it? Wishing you the best care with him!
