I'm not really sure where to put this. I just had my Vitamin D tested and it was surprisingly low. I live in WI but supplement in the winter and spend a lot of time in the sun during the summer. I really thought I was sufficient. My level was 44 ng/ml. The range is 32-100, but the Vitamin D council recommendation is 80ng/ml I think. This article is really a great reference on Vitamin D and even specifically addresses a link with Endometriosis and PCOS... drgominak.com/vitamin-dI recently went to a complementary medicine Dr. who told me it was going to cost $250 to test my Vit D level. Later I found that you can buy tests on the Vitamin D Council website for $65 a piece with a bulk discount on 4 tests. You just prick your finger and mail it in. Has anyone else had their Vit D tested? If so, have you had improvement with endometriosis once you got up over 60 ng/ml?

I’m requesting to have mine tested next week during my annual physical but most people from what I researched are low on vitamin d. I have been taking vitamin d3 2000 IU for almost 1 year now and I feel great, I think it’s a big help. I used to be a huge tanning bed user which would probably explain why I liked them so much, I was always deficient in vitamin D. I always felt more energized once I got my dose.

That's great that you are getting tested! Post back when you get your results. I am currently taking 5,000 IU daily and will retest in a month or two. I like tanning beds, too. So relaxing. And I would always feel strangely energized afterwards. Like you said, it makes sense.

I will! I should preface the tanning bed thing, it’s a major don’t – I have had 5 pieces cut out of me that were pre skin cancer, most likely due to tanning beds so yeah, stay away if you do use them, they are so awful for us.

Good cautionary note! No - I haven't used them in a while. And when I did it was VERY infrequently.

I had my levels checked out a few years ago. I was at only 8 ng/ml. My PCP wrote "pathetic" on my lab results. I had do use high doses of supplements and also had to do a series of shots to get my levels up. I am still pretty low, but it is better than before.
We usually don't get much sun here, but if we do, I always wear sunscreen since skin cancer runs in the family. With the lack of sun and lack of lots of animal products in my diet(I don't eat red meat), I've always stayed low even with supplements.

How much D3 are you taking and do you alter your dose with seasons?

When I was first diagnosed as deficient, I took 50,000 IU once a week and had shots (I don't remember the dose) once a month for 3 months. After that, I transitioned to 1,000 IU for 4 months and am now on 800 IU per day. If I feel sluggish, I go back to 1,000 IU.
I don't really alter it with the seasons since my body doesn't make a lot of D even in the summer. My mom is Filipino and although I'm half white, but I don't burn or get really tan. My stomach to mid thigh is really dark (about 5 shades darker) even though every where else I'm really light. So I have no idea why I don't absorb enough in warmer months. In the winter, it doesn't seem to make that much of a difference if I take 800 or 1,000 IU. I think I don't absorb the oral supplements very well.

Jaye - so I just got my blood work back, my vitamin d levels were actually a little high, I was 75 and the range of normal was something like 35-73. I'm currently taking 2000 IU so my doctor wants me to cut back to 1000 IU per day.

That's good that you don't have a deficiency. It makes you feel AWFUL. Even with my high doses I can only get my levels just above normal.

I wish I would have gotten a blood test 1 year ago to see where I was at. I can say since I have been taking the d3 I feel much better, more energy etc so I'm very sure I must have been low and over the past 9-12 months it's helped alot!
