Holy deliciousness being off work I finally got to Mattas for the rice noodle fix and decided to make sure I got coconut oil as with my endo kicking up, I've seen eczema returning. The guy encouraged me to get the cheap one first to try but in the end I got that and the cold pressed organic one. He was pretty happy as he is a huge advocate of coconut oil for everything including as aftersun. The cheaper one, less than half the price of the other is quite nice to just put in your mouth for the daily spoonful, I hate eating actual coconut but loved creamed coconut which my mum used to use to make rice. The expensive one, I will put on my skin and maybe in cooking. It tastes a lot less of coconut so doesn't have the yum factor, and seeing as my sister is super sceptical will be good for trying in recipes. Its harder in solid form too. Putting in my hair tonight as an overnight treatment, I have thirsty afro hair. So excited!

You're on the bandwagon now, too, eh? Nice! I use it as my only cooking oil now - just got a gallon of it delivered! I can't stand the stuff that tastes like coconut, though. Ugh. You mention your eczema flaring up now, too. That both that and eczema flare at the same time makes me wonder. I've been doing a lot of reading on digestive issues and autoimmune disorders/rashes/aches/pains etc. flaring up when the intestines are not right. Here's hoping CO will help a bit with that! If anything, it makes me poop more.

Yeah I'm back on the vitamin C too which is great for keeping me regular. Having the TeNS I will get off the codeine now which was really counterproductive for making me constipates when already in so much pain. My eczema seems to flare with the pain so must be a stress reaction but definitely agree it is even worse since I started down the 2 poops a week instead of 2 poops a day route. I also had a non-descript rash come up on day 2 of being constipated. As well as the face spots. Being full up with waste, it makes sense your body will protest. Off for my morning spoonful! I'll try it on my kitties too. They are getting towards being elderly so could do with a nice supplement.

Took 2 lots of codeine yesterday but also eaten the equivalent of 1.5 tablespoons of coconut oil = happy bowel this morning. Normally taking any codeine means I'm guaranteed at least 2 days of bring bunged up. Amazing stuff. Lactulose gave me diarrhoea after the first day so can't use that. Not even started my vitamin c yet. So happy. Every little helps but not being constipated is truly marvellous. Even my skin on my face had minimal blotchiness and no rash this morning. Maybe that's psychosomatic but I doubt it.

I've been using CO for just about everything these days - it's my cooking oil, my moisturizer, my hair-flyaway-tamer, etc. A friend told me she's even been making her own deodorant out of it and I finally tried it. Love it! It has corn starch (organic, of course) to absorb moisture and baking soda (alum free, of course) to stop the stink, and the CO keeps my pits nice and smooth. I threw in a few drops of essential oil into it, too.
I'm finding the CO doesn't cut it as a face moisturizer in the colder weather - my face is drying out a bit more - so I'm going to experiment a bit with jojoba and avocado oils as well and see if I can come up with a good combination.

Karen: I wanted to try coconut oil but I only found it in a can and it smelled yucky. Do you go to a health food store and what brands do you look for. We do have a health food store here but I'm so lost when I walk in there. LOL

I get mine online at tropical traditions. I get the expeller pressed stuff by the gallon. You can find it in a grocery store by the other oils, but sometimes they have a strong scent. That's why I like the expeller pressed stuff - no smell or taste. It usually comes in a jar and is a white solid at temps in the 70s and below. Otherwise, it melts.

Omak - I really like the nutiva brand coconut manna - it's like shredded coconut sorta, reminds me of almond butter. If you buy it, soak the jar in warm water, not hot, for about 10 minutes to soften it and then stir it with a spoon, it's really good. I used to eat it, stopped but you can mix it into oatmeal and stuff. The regular coconut oil is good for baking and cooking.

Hi All So i know this thread is a bit old but ive just been convert to coconut oil.! I dont like it for cooking so tried it as a moisturisor last night. (Im becoming obsessed with all the toxic things im coming into contact with on a daily basis. Just learnt there are 33 chemicals in lipstick and over 200 in perfume. Frightening. Not to mention what im spraying in my house to keep away the doggy smell from my fur babies.)
Anyway decided to skip the lotion for same reasons and really surprised by how lovely the coconut was. Skin felt so smooth after and it was so quickly absorbed. I thought i was goin to feel like i was covered in an oil slick.
Karen do you just put it into dry hair at night and then wash it the following morning for a deep moisture? Did you try the cleansing your face with oil? I read that last night fasinating, im gonna try it as skin breakouts is one of my problems.
Any more tips for me re natural cosmetics? I guess health shop is probably best place to start. The only things i dont think i could give up are my mascara, concealer and sun cream. I wear sun cream on my face everyday to try to prevent the wrinklies!

Cherish - if you can find expeller-pressed CO, it doesn't have any flavor and is excellent to cook with! The coconut-flavored stuff isn't so good in a meal... I don't use CO on my hair all that often, but when I do, it's either a tiny bit to calm stray hairs, or overnight as a deep conditioner. And, yes, I do use the oil cleansing method for my face. I wash with an olive oil/castor oil mix, and then moisturize with a variety of different oils. I'm having a hard time finding the right combination so my skin isn't so dry. Yes - my skin is not an oil slick AT ALL due to the oils - I still struggle with dry skin! I also find I reacted to a few different kinds (shea butter, which was recommended by an aesthetician). So far, a mix of CO and avocado oil seems to work the best. My skin has never been so incredibly clear, soft, and smooth! Even friends have commented on it, and they were shocked to find I wash it with oil. As for cosmetics, I've switched to Jane Iredale. Even thought it's supposed to have very few ingredients and for the most sensitive skin, I'm finding I break out in a rash with the eye shadow. I have a long history of eyelid lashes and eye shadow, so it's not just them! Clinique's gave me a similar reaction... I'm also using the pressed powder, but have been warned that more people react to that than the loose powder. I need to go back to the aesthetician to swap a few things out. That brand isn't cheap, but I'd rather spend money on things that make me feel good and don't make me more toxic. Here's a thread that has some info on tracking down how yucky some of your favorite products may or may not be: endo-resolved.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=alternative&action=display&thread=5717

Do a google search for the oil cleansing method if you're interested in giving it a try!

Cherish, I asked an Indian friend and she said that she applies coconut oil to dry hair and leave it in for a couple of hours, sometimes overnight and then wash it off with normal shampoo.
She usually gets me a huge bottle of coconut oil which I use for food like you would with olive oil. I used to fry fish in coconut oil and not noticed a funny taste. Haven't had any deep fried food for a long time as I heard that it's not good for endo.

Thanks Hattie. Will give it a try some weekend i think. I just bought some "naturalish" shampoo from health food shop. I m gonna google the ingredients cos i still cant pronounce a lot of them so im not sure how non toxic they actually are. Not loving the shampoo its really hard to get a lather going with it! Ah well guess its just a matter of trial and error with brands. I think i might concentrate on eliminating chemicals from my household like cleaners and stuff maybe look and the cosmetics and things further down the line
