I was just watching Guiliana & Bill following her story of being diagnosed with breast cancer. She was going on all sorts of message boards to find info/support and they made a great point that I think we all need to be mindful of and wanted to share my thoughts here. The summary of their discussion was that regarding medical advice, only go with the doctors, everyones situation is different and what works for 1 person doesn't work for another and we all need to be mindful and respectful of each others roads to diagnosis and journey thru the treatment plan process. Obviously it's easy for us to come here and share our stories but what makes us all unique is that different things work for different people. I think sometimes we get caught up in the notion of diagnosis and tend to loose track that some people might not be emotionally, physically, or financially in a place to pursue a lap or whatever methods for a firm diagnosis and that is ok, it doesn't mean that they don't want help, there are other reasons why. The message boards are a great place to go for support and for sharing stories of what has worked and hasn't worked for each of us. I also think they key is using these tools for gathering information which you can then take to your medical specialist to have an educated discussion on how to move forward.
Anyways, it really struck a cord in me that it's important to be respectful and supportive of everyones choices for diagnosis/treatment and though we might not agree with someones decision, it's not up to us to be the one to say if their choice is right or wrong, in my mind, there is no right or wrong, it's about what feels right in your heart and what your main goal is that should drive how to move forward.
Here's to continuing the journey together!
