Hello Everyone,
I have just started the endo diet and feel very positive about it, especially after reading such good reports.
However, yesterday I saw my doctor and breifly mentioned I was trying a new diet that cuts out wheat, gluten and diary... at which point she interupted me. She said I shouldn't cut diary out especially if I want to get pregnant because I need the calcium. I replied with "well, what do lactose intolerant people do" and she didn't have a reply to that.
But now I'm worried that this diet will leave out valuable nutrients for pregnancy. Not so much calcium as I have looked this up and brocoli, spinache and some nuts contain a lot.
Has anyone been through pregnancy and stuck to this diet? Did you take any supplements?
Thanks
Janet

The thing about the endo diet is that you typically have to eliminate a lot of processed foods in order to eliminate the things you need to avoid since it is in everything. Which means you're typically cooking from scratch much more often, which means you're eating foods that are much more packed with REAL nutrients, not the additives and fortified nutrients that packaged foods have. Packaged add vitamins and minerals, but whole foods have those.vitamins and minerals naturally, PLUS the cofactors that really allow your body to absorb and digest those minerals properly. Whole foods are.so much better for.you.
That being said, calcium is found in so many other foods than just dairy! Some women find goats milk doesn't aggregate their endo, as I believe goats milk is much more similar to human milk and causes fewer issues. Although I can appreciate your doctor's concern, the nutrients should be.ingested yes, but the source shouldn't matter!

LOL wow. Do they tell doctors when they're in school that the only source of calcium is dairy? I mean, come on doc! Think outside the box a little!

Thank you for your replies. That's exactly what I thought Jenaya! I have looked it up and almonds, seseme, brocoli and spinach contain almost as much calcium as cows milk. She was a nasty peice of work anyway - she upset me over a few things and I complained about her. It was a new doctors surgery, that I won't be returning to! I just worried that if I was to get pregnant again whether my baby would get as much nutrients. However when I compare my diet before to the endo diet - it's going to be healthier anyway! I should trust my instincts more really. Have you heard of the BARF diet for dogs? It stands for biologically appropriate raw food. Basically you feed dogs raw meat and bones, what they have evolved to eat and digest - not kibble. Anyway I am a firm believer in that and have researched it a lot as part of me degree. I understand what you mean about the absorbtion of nutrients and how they are more available in nuts etc. I do think the endo diet is what humans (as cave men) would have eaten prior to farming and technology The endo diet is like the BARF diet for humans lol.

I don't know if I want anything to do with a diet called BARF!! And yes, following the endo diet does not necessarily mean you'll be deficient in anythings, but not eating meat or dairy you do need to get adequate sources of iron, B12 and calcium, are the main ones that spring to mind.

LOL barf diet! That sounds so gross! But that's exactly the basis for the paleo diet; eating like our ancestors. It may take a little research to figure out what foods you can eat to fully nourish your body for pregnancy but I think the endo diet is FAR healthier than the processed modern diet any day! Plus your baby won't be getting all of those chemicals, flavor enhancers, and preservatives either. You really can't go wrong.

Yer BARF is a funny acronym to use when it comes to diet. Although I don't think dogs care too much.

Just thought I'd clarify incase people thought I meant humans should eat raw meat and bones lol. I totally agree. Now I'm aware of all these additives I keep watching my husband eating and thinking about how much junk he's consuming. I'll have to educate him. I'm going to try and get refered to a nutritionalist - just to make sure I am getting what I need to sustain a healthy pregnancy.

Good luck on getting the husband to eat better. My husband won't budge. And of course, he can eat complete crap and be completely fine. Sigh...

If you go to the 'Introduce Yourself' board you can create a post there and tell us a bit more about yourself and your journey, so we can get to know you a bit better and the other members can chime in and say hi

Hello, after a long and disheartening ordeal I am back here.
I got a positive on 10th! I have been following endo diet but now I am not sure I should continue it or go back to normal diet - for the growing baby, like milk, cheese, a little bit of sugar or some gluten diet? Any suggestions will be so appreciated.
Hope for all who are trying to conceive:
I was really sure I would never be pregnant with my own egg! But here is a HOPE for those women who are trying to conceive.. Miracles do happen.. And hope for me this miracle will give me my own baby(so worried about it).
I had stage 4 endo at the time of my last surgery exactly 2 years back. Then I developed a rare atypical mycobacteria in my surgery wounds. After the strongest antibiotics, my hemoglobin went down to half and i was given 2 blood transfusions. My platlet count fell down as well, i had continous fever, my bp fell very low and i landed up in ICU. Where I developed peripheral neuropathy (excruciating pain 24x7 in lower limbs, such that i used become unconscious with pain). I was on wheelchair for about 5-6 months. I was checked with all departments of the hospital. I had developed ulcers in my digestive tracks. My vision became blurred.. there was no place left in my arms to retrieve blood from, i was put on central line for further treatments.. i was broken, my family was extremely sad to see me and no improvement. But after changing the city and the hospital i got some answers and very gradually improved my symptoms. I still have neuropathy pain 24x7 but now its quite bearable.
Then almost after one and a half years, doctor asked to get my "egg count(AMH)" checked. It was 0.53, that is very very very low, she straightaway referred me for IVF. During it they could retrieve and fertilize ONLY one egg. And the IVF cycle failed. Doctor told me there will be no use of any further IVF and we shud go for "egg donation" or "adoption". I lost all hope because my egg count was very low and the eggs left may not be of good quality.
But out of nowhere and amidst no hope at all, i became pregnant (i couldnt believe it for one entire day). Doctor confirmed and I am almost 5 weeks pregnant .. yayyy! I got the bloodwork today and will get the reports on 14th.
I was worried about ectopic pregnancy but the ultrasound showed the gestational sac is well within the uterus. Keeping my fingers crossed, that things go well till the end..
Will I have my baby in my arms one day? I am again hopeful!!

Congrats, sweety!! Such an ordeal, but so glad you got a positive test! That's awesome. What do you think did the trick? Endo diet?
As you can see from my post above, if it were me, I'd stay on the endo diet as much as possible. There's no reason to get Gluten in your diet - it's not something the body needs to function and could potentially cause inflammation that you may not want!
