Naw, we need to hear it. I had a crappy end to the day, but your pics made me smile! We try to run in the winter if we can, I think it definitely helps. RM, what are your winter alternatives to the VFF's?

I love the pictures! I could use a positive outlook on the cold. I dread winter every year. I'm a spoiled southern Californian so I turn into a HUGE baby when it's cold outside. Those pictures are so pretty!

Sorry you had a crappy day, Semi. I'm pretty loyal to Saucony, or was before the VFFs. When I first started running, the only shoes I had were high heels and ballet slippers. So, I ran in ballet slippers, but I wore through them quickly. Saucony's were the first real running shoes I had. So, I use the saucony hattori's. THey let your toes still wiggle around, like the VFFs, but let you wear socks, which is helpful in winter.
I actually used to start dreading winter on June 21, at the latest--that was when the days start getting shorter, and I would be paralyzed with dread thinking of the coming winter. It's been a lot of work to overcome that, and getting off those bcp.

That's a bit inspirational Rust. I might start trying to go for a little walk in the evenings to get the blood pumping then come home to a warm house.

My big thing is whenever it rains, I don't want to do anything. I get really sleepy and just want to curl up on the loveseat with my cats. And it's raining again.

I hear you... Even on days when I haven't looked out the windows yet, it's like my body can sense if it's yucky out and doesn't want to move. My energy levels are very directly tied to the temps. If it's sunny and 70, I can clean my house like nothing and still have the energy to cook a full meal. If it's crummy out and cold/rainy/snowy, it's all I can do to heat something up.

You know, I don't want to jinx it but the cold weather here in DC has been really mild so far. We've only had a handfull of cold days but so far we have been extremely lucky. Maybe that's why I haven't slipped into the depths of depression yet. Yesterday I had the patio door open to my apartment!

It's been f**king fantastic. This time last year, my brake pads were freezing to my rotors (I have disc brakes on my main commuter bike) on the way to work. Very difficult to pedal a bike when your brakes are frozen ON!!!

Same here. This time last year we'd had permanent heavy, thick snow for a month. We've had quite a bit today (THE biggest flakes I have EVER seen!!!) but it's not lying well. Relatively mild though I guess.

I would like to propose a "cyber celebration" on the winter solstice, December 21st! The sun is coming back soon... ;D I plan to have a small brightly lit party myself with lots of candles and chocolate (since the vitamin B helps with depression)

You know, when you put it like that (that we'll start seeing more sun), winter doesn't sound so bad. Except that's not the end of the cold! But, yes, I'm on board with a cyber celebration! May I propose this for our lighting since they mimic daylight? www.amazon.com/Fluorescent-Temperature-Incandescent-Equivalent-Certified/dp/B001IYQZYC We've had mild weather so far as well. For one of my projects at work, we have a small concrete pad that we need to pour before the ground freezes completely but we've been tied up with some red tape. I was convinced that we'd get formal approval to proceed just as soon as we got our first snowfall. Sure enough, I (fingers crossed) expect approval next week, and woke up this morning to an inch of snow... I HATE winter!

I got some toe socks for Christmas for my five fingers- went for a run but damn it was cold! Winter sucks. Not sure they will work much below 30 degrees but I'm determined to keep myself out there.

Love the pictures! Winter is so pretty and I love to watch the snow fall but once the AWWWW of the winter storms go away it turns into blah more snow. Gray sky is what Ohio always has. I am not a spoiled cali girl but I feel like it lol! I want sunshine all the time I kinda live in my own little sunshine world. Most of the years my husband would book a trip to his parents Florida home for me but the last few years medical issues and lack of vacation hours I get stuck here:( I have good days and I have really bad days that I just want to curl up in bed and not move if I didn't have a job it would be my hibernation time but I still have to deal with the public and put on my happy face so I do it. I heard vitamin D helps us so I dose up on that but I would prefer sun I wish I could make it and keep it in a mason jar for those cold winter gray days I would give it everyone. Funny that I crave it in the summer I am afraid of it lol!
