Hi Redwood, thanks for the info on how long it took for Visanne to work for you. The drugged feeling is going away so that's an improvement. I'm still spotting -- boy I'm sick of this. Now day 18 or 19 or something (but some of that is the hangover from Seasonale). Not getting a terrific amount of relief from the pain yet. But it is very early, so giving it a chance. You asked my age -- 50. When menopause kicks in varies for people, I hear. My Mom stopped having periods at 46 but here I am still going strong. My doc said the average age is 52. You brought up the same question I had -- if periods are being stopped artificially with Visanne, how will we know when we are in Menopause? Just the question I'm asking my doctor when I see her next month. I'll post what she comes up with after I see her.

I've been taking Visanne for 4.5 months now and I haven't had any endo pain since the first month (HORRAY!) However I am experiencing the zero sex drive side effect. I'm only 34 and it seriously feels like someone has turned a switch off. I spoke to my doctor about it and she suggested going off of the Visanne and taking a progesterone only birth control pill. I immediately said no.....am I crazy? I'm so terrified of the pain coming back! She also suggested surgery and has referred me to a great surgeon in our city. Not sure what I should do!!!!!

I read this whole thread. I think if I have endo this is the treatment I'd like to try - the traveling to Canada to get it will be a pain but well worth it. I'm too young for a hysterectomy and I don't want to do Lupron shots. So we'll see.

Happy to report that 16 days on Visanne and my pain is virtually gone. Bumpy start with feeling drugged and 12 days of bleeding (on the back of 13 days of a period from another drug.) But no more spotting and now I'm only getting very mild tweaks of endo pain. I'm back to walking, driving and working full-time. Hoping, really hoping, this lasts. Because that's a pretty quick result on a drug!

Glad to hear you're feeling better, indiana. My relief was pretty quick too. Basically my first period I had on it was 10 times better. Well, then that was my last period too. Haven't had one since March. Seems like a lot of people don't have periods on Visanne after the first month or two.

rachel - Once in a while my libido comes back. Kind of just random like, but can be prompted by reading a racy book or a scene in a film or something like that. So it's not totally dead, but most of the time it is. But I prefer not to have the pain, so it's tolerable to me. I don't want to go off Visanne either.

Redwood - That is SOOOOO awesome! No period since March! I am so happy that Visanne is working so well for you and hope it continues. :-) That is definitely something I will be wanting to try when it comes to the United States.

Hello! I was taken off continuous BCP's at the beginning of July. I've now been on Visanne for 15 days. No period, but I am having pelvic pains, bloating and headaches since starting the Visanne. I will be going for bloodwork next week to check my estrogen levels as doc suspects I may be suffering from POF. I'm happy to have found others who are taking Visanne, as I understand we are few and far between. Keep sharing your experiences!!!

Smash -1984 -- it took about 2 weeks for Visanne to cut the pain for me. I was pretty crampy and unhappy at first. But when it did start working, the pain went almost completely. I also had a woozy feeling for about the first week. Not headaches, but I see others write that they have had headaches. I've now been on it 45 days. Working really well -- I'm virtually pain free. The breakthrough bleeding has been a constant with the med. Also normal, I'm told. Stick with it, it seems to work.

I've been off Visanne for about 3 months now and I have to say that my sickness is gone and I don't feel dizzy anymore. So this was a side effect of the pills after all. And most important, I have regular cycles which are not too painful and my sex drive is back!! I hope my endo doesn't come back though, I'm trying to conceive anyway and if it works, I will be safe for some time. Not every med is for everyone. Visanne was great for my endo, because I didn't have periods for 6 months and no new cysts which I was really happy about. I hope it works for you.

I'm still doing the same. No periods, not really having the pain, although sometimes I can get minor pain when I do a lot of ab exercise or stretching my abdomen, but I think this must be more from scar tissue in the area. But there is no more cyclical pain or cramps in that area.
I saw the endo specialist and she did an internal ultrasound. Unfortunately she couldn't look at my endo spot on my side as she didn't have a regular type ultrasound (only the wand). But she doesn't think it's an endometrioma. She said that it's not uncommon to get small endo lesions near a surgical scar from removing previous endo and that they are "always" the type of "dry endo" (kind of adhesive endo) - adhesions I guess, and not a blood filled cyst.
So that was that, and I'm still on Visanne. So unless it gets worse, I'll just stay on Visanne until I think I'm getting menopause. The hot flashes I was getting before have greatly decreased. She said in the exam that it seems I have plenty of estrogen (by physical signs), so I guess menopause isn't that soon then. She also said I have a lining in my uterus about 5 or 6mm. I think that's what she said. I'm surprised it just sits there and never bleeds. I'm glad it doesn't. But I'm just surprised. So it just stays there and doesn't shed. Weird!
The good thing about seeing her is that I can see her again within 6 months without a referral, in case something changes. After that I'd have to be referred again and it might take 6 months of waiting to see her.

Just an update... I'm now about 34 days (give or take) on Visanne. I've had no period, no bleeding, no spotting at all. Just small twinges of pain here and there, nothing major. Headaches have settled. I am having hot flashes, but again may be due to (possibly) having premature ovarian failure. My tummy seems to be sticking out a bit in the lower part, but doesn't "feel" bloated. Strange! Maybe some kind of swelling? I have no idea.
I did my labs last week but can't get in to the doc until late september. So unless anything major happens before then, I probably won't have much to report!
Take care all!
