Hello Smash! I'm glad the medications are helping you. Ulcers are no joke! They feel terrible! I'd be interested to see how your followup endoscopy looks. Your GI can also run some blood tests to see if you have an abnormally high gastrin level. Gastrin is a hormone that stimulates your stomach to produce acid. It can help narrow things down. Although I don't think the test would be accurate if you've been taking medications for ulcers. Might be worth asking your doctor about it anyways.

Hi! I'm new here. I've posted in the intro section if you want a bit more background on my situation. I am currently on my 3rd pack of Visanne (prescribed 30 days at a time with no break) and I am hating it! The first 30 days were pretty good. I have 3 main places I feel pain from my endo, with the right side pain bring the worst. Initially Visanne took away the right side pain, but I could feel the pain in the other 2 areas. That pain is nowhere near as strong as I have been dealing with that for much longer. Also I don't know if the right side pain is just so bad it overrides the other areas. I did suffer from a week long migraine, very tender breasts and breakouts on my face, chest & back, but other than that, I was feeling good. That all changed half way through my second pack. I had a major pain attack that saw me end up in emerg. It was the first time ever all 3 sites of pain had flared up at the same time. I was doubled over and crying and even the Percocet I was given didn't relieve the pain. I also started bleeding, heavily. I lost lots of clots, which is normal and this was my first period since March (this attack happened in September). I had a heavy to moderate flow for 32 days! The more I bled the more the pain stuck around. I had a couple of days with no bleeding, but then started spotting again, and now the pain is starting to get more intense. I have been on Lupron (hated that too) and my doc wants me to try combining Visanne with Mirena. Unfortunately they couldn't put the mirena in in the doctors office as it caused a major pain attack so I am waiting to have it inserted surgically. Has anyone else here tried the double approach of mirena and Visanne? Has it helped? I'm not holding my breath as I don't do well on hire one therapies, but I don't have much choice right now as my doc won't operate on me until I lose weight. I hope this doesn't scare other people off trying Visanne, I see there are far more success stories here than ones like mine.

Well, I've just had a funfest the past three months. I had two endo cysts burst -- one each month. Could hardly walk. Ended up in Emerg for the second one. My gyno was less than sympathetic and argued that my endo cysts have shrunk (they have), and that she now thinks I'm just getting breakthrough ovulation. See you in six months. Really -- I couldn't walk, sit or work for 15 days each time! (needless to say I'm getting a second opinion because eof her dismissive freaking attitude). Then I was taking so much Naproxin for the pain, I developed GI issues and had to stop immediately. So no pain meds at all for several weeks. Then, I started getting really terrible bloating and horrible stomach cramps. It took me about a week to pinpoint that it might be milk/dairy. Now I'm suddenly lactose intolerant! My GP (who is fantastic) looked at everything and pronounced I also have irritable bowel syndrome with lactose intolerance. She connected it all to the endo and said my colon and the endo implants on it are the culprit. Holy jeez, no one every told me I had endo on my colon. So now it's all a new diet. On the upside, I've lost a ton of weight changing my diet. But I've been so stable on Visanne for so many years. My endo hasn't given me a second thought. I wonder if I'm entering menopause and the fluctuations in my hormones are making this all happen.

Hi there
I'm new to this site, looks like some great information on here.
I've been on Visanne for over a month now and am wondering if anyone knows if this medication can effect ones blood pressure. I had normal blood pressure just weeks before I began taking it and as of this week I'm in stage one of hypertension. Could be coincidental but the jump is very high very fast. Any thoughts?

Hello all. I've just come off a 3 month course of visanne, as the side effects I was experiencing were just too much for me. Nausea 60-70% of the time, anxiety attacks and depression that made me feel like I was losing myself, my cycles changed completely and my boobs grew 2 cup sizes. Theyve warned me about the dangers of going without therapy, but the doctor agrees I can't continue on like this. Will continue with 3 month ultrasounds to monitor for new cysts forming, and hope.
As far as blood pressure goes though, it's stayed perfectly level thoughout at 140/70. So I didn't get that one :-)
Good luck ladies, I hope other people have a better time with Visanne than I did!

Oh just to add, I had ultrasounds and full blood work to confirm my symptoms weren't anything more sinister.

I've been on it for three months now... it has definitely helped with the pain but like katiepie my boobs have grown. They were super tender/sore and I was wearing a sports bra every day. I'm usually a 32D and now I'm a 32DD which isn't a super big change but still annoying/definitely uncomfortable. I'll still have bouts of pain every so often but I'm not in constant pain all day every day like I used to be. I was also really over emotional for the first month or so but that has passed. To tanzd I have not combined Visanne and Mirena but I had a horrible experience with Mirena (bleeding heavily/clotting for six months straight, horrible excruciating pain, acne, moodiness, etc.) and my doctor said my body was rejecting it and took it out. I've heard people have good experiences with it as well though - everybody is different. Right now what I seem to be experiencing most is insomnia? I get about an hour's worth of sleep every night despite taking melatonin tablets as well as medication for other health issues that have drowsiness as a side effect (I've had sleeping problems for a while) my sleep definitely got better from the melatonin and other medication but since taking the Visanne I feel like I rarely get sleep anymore. Has this happened to anyone?
Has anyone been on Visanne for long term? Did anyone find it was a good long term fix?

Has this happened to anyone? Has anyone been on Visanne for long term? Did anyone find it was a good long term fix? My first month or so on Visanne (November-December 2013) was fairly difficult--I had mood swings, hot flashes (I was 27 at the time), nausea and insomnia. It was honestly pretty awful and I don't think I would have been able to stay the course if not for my wonderful gyno, therapist and GP helping me managing the side effects in a number of ways. I changed my antidepressant dose for the mood swings, kept ginger in my purse for the nausea and started doing restorative yoga and being vigilant with my sleep hygiene for the insomnia. After about 2 months, the side effects passed and the Visanne has been superstar ever since. No periods (weeeeeee!), no endo pain and no endometrial growths according to the pelvic MRI I had recently (they found a probably benign tumor wedged in between my bowels and my tailbone, but that's a whoooole other sideshow). The Visanne in combination with aggressive excision during my last lap (February 2014) have pretty much stopped my endo dead. I'm so, so glad I stuck with the Visanne.

Visanne has worked for me, it has literally changed my quality of life making it less painful and stressful for me. I went off it and within a month all my problems were back in force, the scans showed a mess, I immediately went back on Visanne and after two weeks am feeling myself again! I don't think it is helping to clear up my endo and adeno etc but it is stopping it from growing any further. I lost 9kgs in 5 months after starting Visanne, and two weeks after stopping it put on 3kgs! For some reason it stops all my crazy cravings and helps me to have more self control!

Hi Ladies... just checking in with an update and curious to see if anyone has discontinued Visanne after extended use (more than one year)?? I believe I'm approaching 4 years on it now. And I've had a whole host of other health issues pop up, as mentioned in my previous posts. Growths in multiple organs and breasts, ulcers, etc. It has been almost 2 years since I got sick with the ulcers and I've since had 4 gastroscopies (plus a cocktail of US's, CT's, MRI's and labs) and the ulcers are still there. My pain went away for a while, but is coming back now. Just had Gastrin tested and it is elevated (I'm still on double-dose of ulcer meds, so test is likely inaccurate). I'm now being sent for CT Enterography and an Octreotide scan. I've also been diagnosed with Graves' disease within the last year. (doc had misdiagnosed me as hypothyroid for the previous 8 years). I've suspected this may be related to the Visanne, but the docs have disagreed thus far. (signs/symptoms could also point to ZES??) Now my gastroenterolgist has changed her mind and just this morning advised me to discontinue the Visanne (her receptionist called and said "The doctor wants you to stop taking the visanne for your heavy menses"... I'm like, it's for endometriosis, not heavy menses - Grrrrr!). I'm terrified. I considered stopping it before but they assured me it wasn't the cause. Now almost two years later they want me to stop. I'm in University full time and working 4 days a week. I need my health and my life back and I don't know what the right move is and it seems the doctors don't know either. I don't have sick benefits at work because I'm a 'casual' employee while I'm in University. I'm just at a loss.

Hi smash1984. I just stopped taking Visanne about 2 weeks ago after 16 months. Fortunately, I didn't experience any terrible symptoms on it but I was concerned about the impact of constant hormone in my body- I did notice dry looking skin which is not normal for me. Bottom line, I'm worried about the long term effects. I immediately went back on a low dose estrogen/progesterone pill because I can't manage without anything. I'm so sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing, I don't know that they are related to the Visanne, but I think anytime we introduce medications it can create systemic changes - with the issues you are having and if I was in your shoes, I would get off it. See if your issues improve, you can always go back on it. I know it's easier said than done. Take care and please let us know how you are doing.

Hi Smash, I stopped taking Visanne two months ago after being on it for 4 years. So far, so good. Np pain has returned. No period has returned, so I'm guessing I'm officially in menopause. The Visanne made it hard to know if I was in menopause at all since it stopped my periods. I have to say, I was quite worried about stopping. The only mild difference I notice is I'm slightly more emotional. But maybe that's what's left of my estrogen rearing up. I am hoping this lasts. It was a wonder drug for me.

Hi I would like to share my experience with Visanne. It wasn't a positive one, so I hope by sharing it I can help others with my experience in deciding whether to take it or not. First 2 weeks of taking it were fine, No side effects, then I was due to have my next period. It started off light, which was different, but had extremely bad pains for 4days, then it got quite heavy. And lots of large blood clots which I havnt had befor. I ended up bleeding for 22days straight. The emotional side effects were equally as worse. I was very emotional and I felt very all over the place. My breasts were also very sore the whole time and an upset stomach also. After 2 weeks of straight bleeding, I was very irritable, very exhausted, not a lot of energy, really bad nausea, very sad and emotional. And headaches, almost every day for 3 weeks. Which was strange, I never get headaches. And disturbed sleeps. Was tossing and turning a lot, waking up etc. Perhaps from all the stress? I was struggling a lot. It felt I had the worst pms for 3 weeks straight. After 3 weeks of bleeding, (and week 5 of taking the pill, ) I was so down and out, I was considering going seeing a counselor. I am generally a very happy, stable, content person, so this was baffling to me that I was that down and out I rang my gynecologist and explained to her how I was very unhappy and wanted to stop, she insisted I keep taking it, and to stick it out for 3 months. I couldn't.. I was so so unhappy. So she said oh well, better luck next time. Stopping taking this pill was the happiest day of my last 5 weeks. After 3 days I could notice my moods getting better. Headaches had stopped. I was still bleeding but was getting lighter. A week after stopping taking the pill, I felt like my own self again. I was happy, smiling, and finally stopped bleeding after 22 days!!!! I think that alone really lifted my moral. I did some research on synthetic hormones and came across a few pages to do with Progestin Intolerance, and how some women just can't take this sort of thing. I tried the Implanon a few years ago, and had almost exactly the same kind of reaction, except I did stick out the whole 3 months as requested by the doctor. And bled everyday for the whole 3 months. It was the worst. As conclusion of trying Visanne, I hated it. It was the worst 5 weeks I've had in along time. I did not help my endometriosis at all. Nor my periods get lighter, nor anything .
