There it is... the dreaded poopy drink. Yeah I keep reading the instructions over and over again to make sure it's all day and the words don't change! It really is ALL day long the day before. So crazy! I guess it's just of the type of surgery. Attachments:

So I'm 5 hours into it and all I've had is one bowel movement and it was just a normal bowel movement too, not diarrhea. This is kinda weird. I thought it would be like all day long peeing out of my ass. Maybe it's just taking a long time to work? I'm tempted to drink some senna tea but I'm worried it will make life hell if it all works at the same time. I just thought the effect would be more drastic than this. hmmm stupid bowels. They wanna go and hibernate when I need them to work!

yeah, don't add to it! Just wait and it will do its job and I told you it doesn't take all day! But stick close to the bathroom in case it finally kicks in

But that's the thing, it IS taking all day. I'm now 6 hours into this since I drank it and nothing is happening. I ended up drinking the cenna tea. I'm getting worried. I hope something works soon! Good thing I didn't start this in the evening because I'd have diarrhea during my surgery! LOL That would be hilarious pooping all over their table. HAHA YIKES!

yay! It's finally working! It only took 8 hours to start! The cenna tea worked so much better. You all may get a laugh about this but for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to eat sipcy buffalo wings yesterday. Aye aye aye!!! Hot butthole! Lol! The diaper rash cream is awesome though!

Your drink is so small. Glad it finally kicked in though. When I did my bowel prep I had to drink a whole jug of nastiness. I peed out of my butt almost immediately. Oh bowel preps.

Ooh, glad it's all moving, though I hope it isn't too painful with the spices! I think i sometimes forget what I put into my body has to come out, and you have totally reminded me to stay away from anything spicy ever again!
Sending you lots of love hon, and some healing hope for your poor bum!xxx

Miralax and Gatorade again! But that's okay, I didn't mind the Miralax... What I mind is having to do this at my mom's house and I'm supposed to start it at 10am the day before and we are going to be on the road. hmm? Its seven hour trip over so I'm not sure, I wonder how strict that 10am is? I also can't eat from that morning on, only clear liquids. Can you say "Car sick". I better pack my mecclizine for the trip. Also my wipes, preparation H, and a bucket to throw up in. Maybe i can take a sick bag from the hospital. I have had to do so many bowel preps! Its disgusting!

Hi everyone,
I am scheduled for my first lap and cystoscopy next Tuesday to determine if I hace endo or IC or both. I have been reading some of the lap stories and people have mentioned bowel prep. Is that common? I have my pre-op on Fri so I haven't been told anything yet about prep.
Thank you, C

Hi C--I hope that the lap goes well for you!
I had a bowel prep required as part of my lap prep, and it's a good think I did b/c I had tons of endo on my bowel and if I hadn't done the bowel prep, they couldn't have dealt with it. However, different surgeons seem to have different policies, so it's a good question to ask.

My bowel prep was to do an enema the day before the surgery and the morning of the surgery. At the pre-op appointment I asked if there was something else I could do besides an enema... they said the other thing was magnesium citrate, which I was glad about because I've done that before. LOL. I've never done an enema and didn't really want to. So I drank fizzy lemon/cherry stuff and pee'd out of my butt all day. I drank an entire bottle and a half.
It definitely did clean me out. Wasn't fun though. It burned after the 7th or 8th time in the bathroom... lol

for future reference the Enema's are way nicer then the horrid drinks! The enema takes about 30 min. top and then you are done. Its quite easy to do as well. I actually prefer them to the horrid drinks and spending an entire day peeing out the backside! The enema is also much more gentle if you have issues with hemorrhoids, pain with pooping and what not.

Ok, so it's nearly my turn for a bowel prep. I'm so excited and thrilled at the prospect. Thrilled, I tell you. And as an aside, when I was searching for this thread, the phrase that I had to put in for the capcha was 'foul smelling'... My bowel prep seems to be more regimented than most of the other ones I've read on this thread. Starting 3 days before surgery (i.e. tomorrow) I have to go on a low residue diet, which basically means I can only eat crap. No fruit or veg or wholegrain or anything with fibre. I feel sorry for vegetarians who have to do this, although there is some small print at the bottom of the list of allowed foods that says 'vegetarians may have texturised vegetable protein'. What the hell is that? Then on day 3 (Weds.) I have to have to drink two doses of Picolax (which is sodium picosulfate, magnesium oxide and citric acid); one at 7:30am and one at 3:30pm. There is a set menu for that day, involving a poached egg (I can't eat eggs!) with a piece of white bread for breakfast and then clear soup or meat extract and clear jelly for the rest of the day. I'm gonna be so HUNGRY! I am NOT looking forward to this, though I did find a verrrrrry amusing thread about picolax on a biker's forum that is making me feel much better: singletrackworld.com/2009/02/the-picolax-thread-returns/

Hope it goes well for you! But this is really an odd diet. GOod luck with it, Hannah!
TVP (texturized vegetable protein) is basically a dehydrated soy product that veggies can cook with--you can put it in a chili and pretend like it's meat, for instance. I actually find it completely DISGUSTING and won't eat it. Way too much processing. But there you go.
and I love the fact that you were reading singletrackworld!!!
