I was diagnosed with Endometriosis about two years ago. I had a very severe case of endo and was very ill. I got addicted to Hydrocodon (Vicoden) and the doctors just kept prescribing it to me. After a while I felt like a lab rat every time I went into the doctor, they always wanted to try new drugs, birth control.. ect. DON'T DO IT. All those drugs like, lupron... make you worse and are very harmful to your body. It is a long story, but I ended up getting Acupunture. It has cured me. In fact, I was on my way to Medical School and I have now changed paths I am getting my Masters in Science for Acupunture and Oriental Medicine. I will be opening a clinic geared towards women with Endometriosis. There are many herb formulas that will help with the pain, the bleeding, and all the other aweful side effects of endo. For example, bowel problems, lack of energy, lack of a normal sex life, acheing, metal sluggishness, ect. Please, I encourage you to seek out an acupuncturist. Remember it took a long time for you to put in all the drugs your western medical doctor prescribed you, so its going to take a while to get them out. Give the Acupuncturist time to let your body heal. Your body can heal itself, its a very powerful thing. And find an acupunturist your comfortable with, someone who is like you. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me anytime at lbehlen@gmail.com. Oh, they also can help with fertility. Take care everyone!

I have heard wonderful things, but have been afraid to try it. I don't like needles very much, and I feel like I don't have much of a pain tolerance. Since dealing with endo, my pain tolerance has got much better. I still don't like needles though. Maybe one day I will be brave enough to try acupuncture. It must be wonderful, if it is able to get somebody to change career paths. Thank you for the info Lindsey. Good Luck, Lynette

Understandable about being nervous with needles. However, keep in mind the needles are as thin as a one hair from your head and most of the time, you can't even feel them. I was never a fan of needles, but I don't feel the needles... and I don't really a high pain tolerance! Well, good luck to you. Lindsey

I tried accupuncture once, and it helped the pain for a couple of hours. The accupuncturist, who I know is very effective for other ailments, told me that I should probably listen to the doctor if I have cysts on my ovaries, 'cause she probably can't help me much. I was shocked that she didn't think the accupuncture could help. So, I did not go back. As for the needles: yes, I did feel them being stuck into my body, and when they were removed I felt them again. And my abdomen was red with risidual needle pains for about a half an hour after they were removed. It was not at all "painful," (come on, we suffer from endometriosis, what's a little needle ?) but I certainly felt it. I may try accuncture again, with someone more confident in his/her ability to help me. But my insurance doesn't cover it, and $50 plus a pop adds up.

Hi I am having ear acupuncture at the moment, tonight was my four time and I have been having it once a week. To be honest I am not sure how it is going because it always makes me feel more relaxed after I have had it but tonight when I had the pins put in the pain from one nearly made me go through the roof. Also I have felt a lot worse this week and I know that there is such a thing as a healing crisis but this should be short lived...right? I am not ready to give up on it yet though so I am going to give it a few more weeks I think.
Any more success stories with acupuncture...I have heard that it is good for endo!
Goodnight...Redmoon

Acupuncture has been really wonderful to me, It is a chance to talk about all my symptoms, my frusturations, etc. and feel like I am truly being listened to...
I feel it really resonating throughout my body and it must be a consistent regular thing in order to be effective.
I think of it as a date with my body, taking myself to relax, get well, heal and while the needles are in I do alot of meditation and visualization.
I go to a clinic which is part of an acupuncture school. Only 30 dollars a vist. Very worth it. I know other schools charge this or less.

So how long did it take you to feel better? were/are you treated for fertility as welll? were/are taking any Chinese herbs as well? Well my experience with acupuncture is inconclusive at the moment last year I saw an acupuncturist and my "general feeling" got better, some of the endo symptoms I believe got better but it is hard to say since I was changing my diet at the same time . I also was going for fertility but not luck on that filed yet. Anyway the changes that I noticed was no pain or minimal pain/cramps or symptoms between periods, but still lot pain with my period. This year I changed to a different acupuncturist to focus more on my fertility, I started with this new one around May, but I noticed small changes, still a big deal of pain from my first to 3rd day of my period (this last one I took a total of 6-7 ibuprofen pills for the pain and missed work a day and all weekend I had to stay home), my fertility not new yet... Anyway this Chinese doctor said that for my case may take between a year or 2 but I am not sure if will be able to affront all the cost since it is quite expensive but I am not sure if I do have other choices... this is my experience so far with acupuncture and Chinese herbs... I'll keep posted if any changes.. Please write your experiences

Some updates.... I been with this acupuncture since May of this year, so total approx 6 months. Even though my pain during my periods is still quite bad, the rest of the month I am quite OK. The only issue is my right side pain, this is shoulder pain that is referred from my diaphragm and pelvic pain caused by pelvic muscle floor spasm. I had an ultrasound done beginning of October and in fact my doctor said that my right ovaries has some improvement, still have a cyst and some endometriomas but not as many as before. My left ovary is almost the same. I have 5cm cyst that he could not find during my internal exam so he is not sure if still there. No pregnant yet so no much improvement on this area. So... I am not sure if to continue with this treatment... Is there any other positive comment about acupuncture?

my acupuncturist is a young woman who has endometriosis herself. she gets regular ultrasounds to track her cysts and endometriomas, and she says the raw herbs have had the most significant effect, allowing the body to absorb the cysts so they disappear completely, also doing regular treatments and changing her diet have been beneficial.

I began getting acupuncture from a Chinese doctor after I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Thyroiditis last winter. I specify that he is Chinese because some of my friends who have either gone to schools or spas (or even hospitals) for acupuncture have different kinds of treatments. My doctor's parents practiced acupuncture in China before they moved to the US. My doc was trained in China and he also had to get certified here, in Illinois, so he seems to have a very well rounded technique.
In any case, it helped tremendously with the hypothyroid symptoms but my period was actually getting worse! He told me that I was shedding a lot of old stuff, which I thought made sense both physically and spiritually, but the pain became so great during my period that I made the appointment with my PCP that led to my lap and eventual diagnosis with endo a month ago.
My recovery has been slow, and my first period after my lap was as bad as ever. I wanted to go back for acupuncture but my doctor won't treat me during my period. (For medical reasons not "impurity")
I finally had an appointment this past Sunday and had a wonderful hour and a half of just relaxation, meditation, and my favorite part, the heat lamp directly over my belly. Because one of my incisions was having a little trouble healing and I was still in some pain from the surgery (achy and stiff) he didn't put any needles in my torso but instead used the "remote location" on my shins. He did three kinds of treatments: the needles, then he put some herbs on the tip of the needle which he lit to heat the needle, and then finally, after removing all the needles from my body, he used another kind of burning herb on my toes. It was fantastic and I feel amazing.
I am going to go back in two weeks which will be the week of hormonal hellfire and premenstrual cramping. We'll see how that goes...I'll let y'all know.
I HIGHLY recommend acupuncture, like jp said, its just a wonderful "me" time. If acupuncture isn't working, maybe try someone else. I also know someone (not an endo sufferer) who was unable to get pregnant for over two years but finally conceived after only a few treatments of acupuncture!!

I had acupuncture in the summer of 2005 mainly due to my fatigue and generally feeling 'fuzzy' all the time (which I now relate to when my endo is bad but I was still undiagnosed at the time). It was absolutley wonderful, I had a 1 hour acupuncture session and 1 hour acupressure session and that night I dropped off to sleep straight away and slept through the night for the first time in about 4 months. I went about 6 more times but had to give it up due to the cost - its very expensive in the UK. About £60 for one hour which is roughly 120 USD. As far the pain of the needles, I didn't feel any, more like a bit of pressure. Nothing like when you have an injection

I am getting really good results, but I have not had a treatment in awhile. I did go off the pill, do a two week detox cleanse and have been really good with supplements, much better with diet, and general well being. Anytime I have pain, discomfort, or any sort of illness or imbalace with my body, I stop and check in, see what is causing the reaction, ask myslef what i ate, whats my stress level, etc. My last period (birth control free) was super. Slight cramps alot of heavy blood, no pain during sex. This might be off the subject of acupuncture, but I feel the experience I had there led me to a super conciousness about a whole well being, using instinct, treating the entire body with patience, herbs and diet.

I tried the Acupuncture but it only helped for a few hrs.. I went to the Acupuncturist for about 6 months and no relief. But I believe in the eastern med. I am a massage therp. and do CST aswell. When I was in massage school that was the best I felt. But I was getting massages every day for 2-4 hrs aday. Now I can not afford that nor is my friends from school doing massage any more. One reason why I went into massage so I can help others. Yes I did the western meds but I had no other choice I didn't have to money to do anything else.. And my insur. would not pay for the eastern meds. I'm glad you out there to help others.. Good Luck with school and your new career.
