The thing is, for the most part the culture over here is a pub crawl culture - hit as many bars as you can in one night, have a drink in each so you end up drinking quickly too. When I was younger, and a student, it was often more about spending the night in one bar and actually talking to friends. I miss that, and I wish we had more of that type of culture where you go out to socialise and chat, and not always about the wine bars and pub crawls. But my friends just don't really want to do that.

I agree it's certainly like that with the work guys I've gone on nights out with, it's been a mix of a crawl that then broke down into a 2 bar drink and chat scene, but still people felt the need to point out for weeks later that I was taking ages over 1 drink. I can say that besides my tolerance coming down from 'good drinker' to 'cheap date' I can only drink 2-4 drinks now because of the gabapentin I take. I read up and a lot of people had to become teetotal while taking it. If anyone finds their tolerance to alcohol suddenly dropping, see your GP. I was reading up a little on pancreatic cancer due to J's situation with that bastard George and one thing they noted was that whilst it's hard to detect, there are small changes you should take notice of and report to your doc, tolerance to alcohol and medication being one. I'm not saying it'd be cancer but it points to changes in your major organs so is worth taking notice of and investigating.

I have thought about trying to cut back on alcohol. I hardly ever drink to hangover point--I hate the feeling. But, I have drunk much more regularly since getting married. My husband drinks pretty regularly, always has, and it's easy enough to fall into the habit of drinking with him. True to our strong southern heritage, we mostly drink bourbon, which I'm sure is terrible for you. And I'm certainly feeling it today, since yesterday was the Kentucky Derby. All my family is appalachian, so we really have to let loose on the first saturday in May. But combining that with having to work a shift at the bike shop today, and I feel pretty terrible.
Does quitting drinking have a big effect on the endo pain?

Oh yikes. I wonder if this is why alcohol started making me so sick. Crazy! Freakin George! And "rust" I got into the habit of drinking a lot because of my husband too. But we quit together so it helps to have someone that's sober with you and is close to you.

The drinking more was something that sort of happened in my five years of marriage, and I'm still unsure how I feel about it. We generally do a month or so out of the year totally sober, just as a sort of cleanse. And, of course, I also didn't drink at all when I was pregnant.
Maybe I'll suggest a longer trial of either totally sober or drinking only once per week or something, now that we know for sure that endo was a lot of my problems. I'm still at the point of being amazed that you can walk around for 15 years with your tubing entirely stuck together and no one notices!

The other interesting thing about alcohol is how many people succesfully take it for stomach problems. My dad had terrible problems for years and a small glass of wine each night fixed them completly. I have to be honest I don't drink much unless its fruity (like a margarita) and I keep trying this as a treatment. I don't know if its succesful or not. When my gallbladder was messed up though, ANY alcohol was AWFUL! My friend tried to get me to loosen up at a party and we ended up leaving early because I got sick instead. Not much of a party
