I read that the kidneys can process 1 liter per hour. Since I drink about 1/4th of that, I think I'm okay.

Since I have been diagnosed with IC as well as endo (probably caused by the endo) I have been doing some research on it. I just thought my constant peeing and getting up all night long was something I had to live with. The first time I knew something wasn't right with my bladder and it "wasn't just a woman thing to go all the time" was when in 2009 post hysterectomy they tried to put in a catheter and couldn't get it in. Exams of any kind down there are incredibly painful. I"m hoping to get to some PPT to help with the exam pain, but I'm also hopeful that I can get some kinds of meds that can help. The current things I'm on are interesting. So here is the list: antihistamines - Vistarel (and zyrtec which I was already on but can help) Hyophen - which is a combination and has to be take four times a day Flexeral to help the bladder to relax at night Tramadol for the pain
I have had nights this last week when I have slept for almost 3 hours at a time! I can't remember the last time this happened. I had no idea it was possible to sleep that long without a break. I wish all the meds would stop making me nauseas/dizzy but I'm hoping to find a stomach med that will work. I'm going to ask about zofran instead of phengren. I have been living like this since I had kids. For some stupid reason I thought it was normal? How horrible is that?

I always thought I was normal to....my twin sis and I had the same problems and she is who I went to for help or advice. Omak how is the flexeral? I had awful side effects that is a drug on my bad list. Zofran & phernergan watch for some weird side effects with that too. I worry about anyone taking anything I am sure you will be fine but sometimes people think they are suppose to feel like that and do not say anything & run into problems later.

I only take the flexeral at night. It knocks me out! lol Something is making me twich but I think its the narcs. I keep trying to use as little as possible but I have a lot of pain. I keep reminding myself that I'm recoviring from a five hour surgery and its going to take time to heal! The flexeral helps with the bladder spasms though and we went camping right before my surgery and I usually have to stumble in the dark several times to go the bathroom and I went at ten and didn't get up again until 7am. It was rather novel. I hope its a trend that works. I hate being on all this stuff though. It makes me so... sick to my stomach/dizzy

My appointment is tomorrow and we are discussing bladder installations, among other things. I can't imagine that being at all fun... I may get to learn how to catheterize myself so I can do rescue bladder installations. What's ironic about that is I will be learning how to cath other people this first quarter of nursing school. I will be ahead of everyone else on how to do this I guess. The hydroxzine is helping immensely. I usually only get up 3-4 times a night now. Its so weird to go to sleep and then not wake up again until 3am in the morning!! I'm having to retrain my brain to actually sleep straight through the night. I'm always shocked when I look at the Alarm and I realize its been several hours of hard sleep.

Glad you are getting the sleep you need. You are a busy woman and need that rest. I hope it all works out for you Karla I am thinking of you. WOW for being able to do all of that yourself! I read what all of us go thru and it amazes me!

OMG!! I went to my sister in laws (she just got her RN) and had her help me get my meds/cocktail all drawn up. I was shaking and sweating and I was hoping she knew how to do the cath, but she has only done male caths. She offered me her bathroom when I explained how embarrassed I was about doing it at my moms. The Dr's. office forgot the viscous lidocaine jelly for the cath so then I had to call about that and get a script. Then I am shaky and crying and freaking about about having to cath myself. We got everything ready and I sat on the toilet. My hubby bought a mirror that I was able to set between the seat and lid and it swiveled so I could see what I was doing. So here I am in my sister in laws bathroom, she stayed outside the door in case I needed help. I got the cath in the "hole" but it wouldn't go in. I wanted to bawl, the sweat was pouring down my face and I was shaking. I finally asked my SIL to get my hubby. :-[He came in and kneeled in front of the toilet and tried to help. I finally realized what was wrong and I had to lean back and it worked! I got the cath in! Of course then I was holding it and trying to figure out how to get the installation in and the end doesn't fit on the 20cc syringe correctly and we got most of it in and pulled out the cath. By the time I got done I felt like I had run a marathon. I'm totally taking a shower tonight because the sweat was literally dripping into my eyes because I was freaking out so bad about all of this. It didn't hurt at all! I was given the smallest Ped caths. and its so tiny and once I figure it out I should be able to do it pretty quick. I'm supposed to do it 3x a day just at the beginning until things get healed inside. But anyways... that was my horror story for the day. I'm calmed down now but it was very stressful, very, very stressful! I know my SIL would have helped but I just couldn't get over the embarrassment and she at least helped me get my meds mixed since I have never done that before. All in all, quite an interesting experience. My body sucks by the way!!!

I only have one cath left after todays adventure! I used two today trying to get it to work and I didn't want to risk UTI's so I spent an hour on the phone with Liberty Medical to find out that they were closed... I really need my supplies and I can't even order them until Monday. *sigh* I did finally do a proper Installation, I got the catheter connected to the syringe properly. But the double catheterization made my bladder pretty p*ssed so Its very angry now and didn't like me poking and proding and annoying it! The installations do work, its just been quite an adventure learning how to do it! YIKES

When I woke up this morning my Urethra felt like it was being torn with each step. It was excruciating pain. I'm sure the cherry slushy yesterday that I shared with my hubby is what did it. I finally did my last catheter until my new supplies come. I did finally get a hold of Liberty medical supplies and they are sending a selection so I can decide which one I like. Cool right? He is also sending it overnight so I only have to wait until Tuesday. I think I can wait. Found out though that getting the needles, syringes etc might be a pain. I asked Walmart and they were like "you can't get that, you can't get this". I will go to my favorite pharmacy tomorrow and my PCP see if I can get some more supplies. I have to mix this Heparin, Bi carb, lidocaine cocktail in a 20cc syringe. Walmart only has 10cc. I need needles and what not. I'm collecting quite a pharmacy, its crazy but if it works!?

Aww Karla that sounds like no fun at all! I'd be too scared to use syringes on myself. On another note, I visited this thread because I just went pee and I had WAY cloudy urine, I turned around to flush and was like "Oh! Um??" Haha... and so out of curiosity (because I've NEVER seen it that cloudy.... looked kind of like miso soup! haha.) I googled "what does really cloudy urine mean" and it took me to a website that listed different problems that cloudy urine can be a sign of and.... dadadaaaaa, CYSTITIS is one of them! Not saying I have it. I just came here because it made me think of you guys I have been trying to do this thing where I avoid dwelling on my symptoms and try not to be hypervigilant and that is definitely helping with my stress, but I do have to admit that based on what I've shared with you and you've then told me about IC, I wouldn't be surprised if I have it, but I'm also not freaking out about it because for now most of my symptoms have subsided (like the urgency, frequency, and incontinence), aside from lots of discomfort when I have to pee and pain while peeing, but I think most of that is due to the endo on my bladder. Love you all!

Jess, have you been tested for a UTI? Just good to rule that out first, and if you have one, it really sucks.

Too much vitamin E can cause cloudy urine. Probably other vitamins as well.

I haven't! I work at the university health center now so I could probably get that done really easily. I don't think it's a vitamin issue since I don't take any vitamins (I should) and don't eat all that healthy either lol. If anything, I'm bad about NOT getting enough of the essential vitamins. I'll get tested for a UTI and let you guys know how it goes!

Cloudy urine is also just a sign of dehydration. Drinking more plain water is always good for the bladder. Don't do Cranberry juice though!!! Apparently if you have IC its incredibly abrasive to the bladder since the lining of the bladder in IC patients is damaged and sometimes NOT there. Fruit juice of any kind can cause severe pelvic pain due to the inflammation of the bladder. So stay away from acidic foods, and drink water, water, water! You really can't drink to much water, even with the whole electrolyte balance issue Karen mentioned. Our bodies need more water and most of us don't drink enough.
