Hahahahaha, doesn't matter how old a man is, they still get weird around 'period' stuff!
I've had a slight bit of pain from it, but I think that has more to do with futzing with it after it's inserted to make sure it's ok. I think if you have pain with tampons, this might give similar pain.
And as for taking it out, the first time or two was kind of tricky and I got a bit panicky, but there's a stem on it for you to grab hold of to help yank it out. I just want to avoid that 'oh crap it feels like a tampon is going to slide right out' feeling that I get at the start of my cycle...

I read all of the customer reviews and my goodness I feel like I'm missing out on something wonderful! I really want to try it. The only pain I get with tampons is if I shove it in too far. I am worried about the pain with the Diva Cup because my cervix is suuuuper sensitive.

It doesn't go in far enough to touch the cervix!

I was that paranoid after contracting BV that I wouldn't even check if my mirena threads were intact so I'm too squeamish for this thing

Yeah, I don't think it's for everyone. Still trying to figure out if it's for me, too!

I hate pads, I'm with J on that one - they totally gross me out and make me feel dirty. I did them on and off the past 2 periods but I wonder if those pads caused the BV so I'm done with pads and back to tampons. I'm curious about this cup but I get totally grossed out feeling the inside of my vagina, gives me the willies, can't do it so that would make it out for me. One time I bought these ben wa balls to try for some fun times in the bedroom, they got stuck inside of me and I had to make hubby fish them out - NEVER again! LOL!

Cups freak me out bc they work by giving your cervix a hicky, basically. But TONS of people love them!
The lady Karen and I bought the pads from makes awesome pads, and she's really reasonably priced.
I've tried LunaPads and used to sew my overnight pads with fleece, too, but the fleece bugs me (synthetic fiber) and after cloth diapering my kiddo, I've found that natural fibers like cotton don't repel or wick. If any issues with fleece arise, OxiClean can do the trick so you don't ahve to scrub with a toothbrush and dish soap to strip the synthetic fibers.
There are cups (have been around for ages and ages)--both reusable and disposable (disposable Instead cup, which you CAN have sex with...can't with the reusable ones), cloth pads, catamenial pouches, and reusable seasponge tampons.
The museum of menstruation has some really cool pics of feminine products from the centuries.

I tried the cups, I can't remember which brand but YUCK! It creeped me out and was gross and how the heck do you disguise them in the garbage? my vag is tipped funny too so I never could use tampons. Ten days out of the month bleeding and hating every product none to woman... so glad to be done!

To clarify, the Diva cup does NOT create suction on your cervix, it sits low in the vaginal canal. It is approved by the FDA for menstrual feminine protection. www.divacup.com/en/home/faqs/ Read the FAQs for correct information. It's certainly not for everyone but for those that have issues with the drying effects of tampons, it's fab. I'd much rather clean a cup every 12 hours with no leaks than pull out a yucky tampon every 4 and have to worry about leakage. And as for indeed, it looks like a diaphragm, and I assume it's to be worn as one as well, which means it's large enough to sit on the top of the vaginal canal between the pubic bone and the back of the cervix.

I've been debating trying the diva cup- can anyone discuss their experiences with using one? I've been nervous try try it because of my heavier periods, so I'm not sure how it handles clots or heavy flow. I'm often heavy at work, is it a pain to clean out in public bathroom? Thanks for any input! (I didn't find a thread for this, but let me know if I missed it

I have a diva cup and used it for a few cycles, but then I didn't have a cycle in forever and forgot about it. I was just thinking I should use it for my next cycle, particularly because I'll be traveling for work. I'll admit it can be a bit tricky to get placed correctly, and as a result I had a few leaks a few times, but when I got it placed right - not a single leak! I'd really recommend reading the diva cup's website - they have a ton of useful knowledge. The only thing I'd do differently is get a smaller size. Their website states that anyone over a certain age should get the larger size, but I think it's a bit too big. Granted, the smaller one is only a tiny bit smaller, but still!

I have loved the diva cup. It doesn't hurt nearly as much as tampons, and it holds a lot of content (sorry)--good for those days when you're flooding! I use it with a pad on those days--it helps.

After re-reading this thread, I looked up the Softcup. It seems to fit just like a diaphragm and still allows you to have sex with it in, unlike the diva cup. They come in reusable and disposable, and 14 (7 days worth) was a mere $8 or so. So, I picked up a pack and will try them out this cycle, see how they work out. I'll post back!
