Drs. Orbuch and Seckin unfortunately do not take insurance. :/ My insurance company just yesterday denied me coverage to see Dr. Kanayama, another specialist who I really wanted to see, so my next stop was going to be pelvicpainnewyork.com/ ...they do take insurance. Although now I will have to look into Dr. Iui...hadn't heard of him before (thanks, semi). On edit: Not finding anything about him...

Whoopsies, it seems like I had a typo, should be Cy Liu: womenssurgerycentertn.com/about-us/c-y-liu-md.phpBut if you want to see someone you should try to appeal. Sometimes specialists will help you with this, the good ones are used to being denied unfortunately.

Ah, thanks.
The office manager said she would try to appeal, but I'm just not feeling terribly hopeful right now... :/
On edit: Dr. Liu indeed sounds good, but only accepts insurance with out-of-network coverage...which I don't have. Yet my insurance company denied me because they claim there are in-network doctors who perform the same procedures as specialists. Um, really? Where? Even the pelvic pain doctors I linked to before, who seem to take a lot of different types of insurance, don't take mine. (Sorry...guess this should go in the Rant section. I just found out about the denial of coverage yesterday and I'm pissed and frustrated.)

There are actually a lot of competent gynecologists out there for treating endo that do take insurance, though they can be hard to find. My doctor does not list himself as an endometriosis specialist, but rather a specialist in gynecological minimally invasive surgery. Essentially the same thing. I'm actually glad I went to him instead of an all out endo specialist since I also had a fibroid that needed to be dealt with and he was able to get everything done in one surgery. Thankfully, the new standards for laproscopy have been out for awhile now and more and more docs are using them. Some things that might help with finding a good doc: - Check your insurance see if you have an "Ask a nurse" line, or another doctor finding service. Many companies have this and you can specify what you want in a doctor, you want one who specializes in endometriosis, pelvic pain, and or minimally invasive gynecological surgery. - Check out your local hospitals, chances are one of them is the hub for women's health issues. My hospital's page looks like this: www.mdmercy.com/womens/gynecologyCenter/endoscopy.html Their endometriosis page is mind blowing, davinci, special endo detection tools, they use gynegaurd to prevent adhesions, excision, the works. Your local hospital is more likely to take your insurance as most insurance companies are fairly regional. - When you call to make an appointment ask questions about how they perform laproscopy, how often your potential doc is in surgery, if they are a reasonable clinic they will be able to direct you to someone right away who can answer your questions. You want a doc who's in surgery at least several days a week. One who uses excision, or "dissects out endo", you want to hear that they send samples to pathology, and these days also that they lay down material to prevent adhesions when healing. As an FYI most Davinci Surgery uses laser tools, but that does not mean they just ablate lesions, so ask for clarification. Another benefit of having a doc who takes your insurance is that they will want to keep you. I've developed a great relationship with my doc, and I know he will be the one to do any other surgeries I need. I am also what he specializes in, and as he so endearingly put it "without women like you I wouldn't have a job."

Thanks for all the tips, willow. It turns out that the pelvic pain center I linked to above does take my insurance, so I made an appointment with them. We'll see how that goes...

Continent: North America Country: United States Region/City: St. Louis, Missouri Dr. Name: Dr. Patrick Yeung Jr. Clinic / Hospital: St. Louis Center for Endometriosis Saint Louis University St. Luke's Hospital St. Mary's Hospital Specialties / Procedures / Treatments Offered: Studied under Dr. Albee and Sinervo Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery using CO2 laser Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health Website / Contact Info: obgyn.slu.edu/index.php?page=center-for-endometriosisLocations Patient Office: 1031 Bellevue, Suite 400 St. Louis, MO 63117 Phone:: (314) 977-7455 Fax (314) 977-7477 MAP Google St. Luke's Hospital Patient Office 224 S. Woods Mill Road Suite 665 South Chesterfield, MO 63017 Phone:(314) 977-7455 Have you been to this doc? Yes, lap done 1/2013 -What have been your results? A little early to tell, but so far, so good! Known information regarding insurance coverage: Accepts some insurance plans. My lap was able to be billed to insurance and I was only responsible for a surgical procedure deductible. How did you hear about this doc?: From one of you lovely ladies when I first found this site. Other Comments: Dr. Yeung is great! I felt comfortable from the minute I sat down with him. My initial appointment was very thorough and he explained everything to me without making me feel dumb. After my exam, he determined that I would be a good candidate for a lap, but also offered other options, such as BCP and Lupron. At that time, he scheduled non-emergency surgeries about 2 months in advance. He and his staff always got back to me within 24 hours when I had a question. The day of the lap, he came in before the surgery to meet my "entourage" and to explain the procedure one more time. He also told me exactly which medications that I would be taking at home, when to take them, and had some recovery tips. After the surgery, he came out to talk to my mom and boyfriend about the procedure. He had over 20 color photos and encouraged my boyfriend to video tape what he said so that I could watch it later and not have to wait for my post-op. He also had a 4- page typed-up document for me when I went home that reiterated everything he told me before the surgery, along with lists of what is normal and what is cause for concern. I have been very pleased with the level of care I was given by Dr. Yeung and would recommend him to anyone!

The specialists I know of in that area are Dr. Hibner and Dr. Desai in Arizona, they have a good reputation and do excision surgery.
