Oh yeah I feel you Helen. My husband's family keeps on coming to Anchorage, to visit thier ailing grandmother (another rant there) and every time they show up, if it's a weekend we are OBLIGATED to load up the dogs, shut down the house, and drive 300 miles to sit around, spend all our UNAVAILABLE NON_EXISTANT moneys in Anchorage, where everything is way overpriced. Then we spend the next two weeks eating frozen salmon, running out of fuel, and hoarding cigarette butts til payday! And there's no way around it! so I feel you sister, and I've been trying to get on top of our budget for 6 months, since we now both have jobs, but I still have less than 50$ in the bank, and nothing to show for any of it. My husband is even more depressed when we get home from anchorage, the only good part is that at least we dont bring his whiny, complaining, selfish, superficial (and totally clueless) family home with us! Hope it gets better, I always look in the mirror and sternly lecture myself: "at least you have a job!" - half of my friends are totally unemployed right now, with no health care even. So as broke as I am I have to feel lucky (not saying this applies to everyone though!)

I feel like I've only gotten a breath of relief when it comes to finances this past month. Not that I'm making any more money or anything - I've been living from paycheck to paycheck since I've been getting a paycheck - but I finally feel like I have a real plan in place, and it's getting put into action this month! I'm in the middle of "9 Steps to Financial Freedom" by Suzi Orman. I find her annoying when I see her on TV, but she's got so many, many good points in her book! It's all about being truly honest with how much money goes out the door every single month, facing your fears about it all, and putting together a plan. Honestly, I've had a budget in place for years and thought I was doing all I could, but she's clearly put me in my place and made me realize how far off I was! And in the interest in saving money, I got the book from the library. I'll likely see if I can get a copy at a used bookstore, though, as it's one I'd like to keep around. It's a good read!

I kow things could be so much worse. Most of this is just annoyance at myself for letting myself get into so much debt! I even sold some old unwanted jewellery today to help me get through the month!

awww I'm sorry. I used to be REALLY bad at budgeting. I was in such horrible debt. My husband has really tought me to keep a tight ship. Being in debt feels so terrible when you get in over your head. I remember the stress, it was awful. I hope you can work through it!!!

I'm in no danger of not paying what I need to pay each month, it's just that there's not an awful lot left over aftewards!

I too can pay what needs to be paid as long as no extras present their ugly head. And by extras I mean anything past the normal bills.
I got laid off last year and things have been a bit touch and go since. I am worried about my daughter starting high school in August, they have a severe dress code and finding the items tends to be difficult. Then add these little excursions to the doctor at $30 here and $100 here. They are starting to be very trying too. I am nervous at how much out of pocket this is going to cost; my pockets are empty!

I'm right there with you. As of July 31 my husband will be unemployed and uninsured. I'm a stay-at-home-mom, homeschooling 3 of our four kids. Our oldest is in college. If I had known about the work situation I wouldn't have gone back to the doctor a couple of weeks ago. But now, I'm kind of in it, needing surgery to stop my hemorrhaging along with a biopsy to check for ovarian cancer. I can't even imagine what will happen if I do have ovarian cancer. Lots of prayer going on over here!

It's really sad that at the end of every year I save up $5,000 to pay for the next year's medical expenses. I know I am going to have to spend the money on endo and in the 6 years I have been doing this, I have yet to get through a year with any of that money still in my savings account Having endo, even with my amazing insurance, is costing me a fortune!! I'd be living a nice comfy life with lots of vacations to Europe if I didn't have endo Maybe we can get one of those MasterCard sayings made about "$150 on medications, $200 on physical therapy, $250 on doctor's visits, $500 in lost wages...1 day without endo pain, priceless!" lisa6 - that sounds like a really tough situation. I hope everything turns out fine!! My mom had endometrial cancer that she did not get looked at for a long time. It turned into ovarian and cervical cancer that infiltrated all her tissues. It took over a year of treatment for her to get back to "normal" and that was after she had a radical hysterectomy and months of radiation. The doctor said if she had had it looked at when the symptoms first started it would have only taken a surgery to remove the cancer and she would have been fine. My message to you is: No matter how bad life is right now, make the cancer a priority because life will only get worse if you don't. If it is cancer, let me know if you need someone to talk to because my mom can definitely hold your hand and walk you through it. I'll pray for you!!

I think doctors should have a "satisfaction guaranteed or your money back" policy. We would save so much money on all the bogus doctor visits we've all had!

So we're trying to get our credit card bill down so we're really watching what we put on it. As long as we're paying off more than we spend, I'm ok with that. I really don't want to hear about interest/min payments, etc. We always pay like $400+ more than our min payment and right now we're not paying any interest (which is why we want the cc amount way lower in the next 6 months).
ANYWAY...I paid $500 on it 2 weeks ago. Since then, we put $360 back on it and he's PISSED!! Blaming me for spending $400 on nothing and saying it's my fault we aren't getting anywhere and actually took my credit card away because "I just don't get it" when it comes to spending.
So I look at the credit card statement. $91 was his insurance, $98 was fixing a tire on our vehicle, $70 was a copay and 2 prescriptions because my son was sick this last week, and $60 was gas. I there about $15.00 on there that was extra unneeded spending (which I admit to).
I think it's a super big d*ck move for him getting pissed off at me and blaming me and my "spending" on why the money was put back on the cc the last two weeks. All of it (minus the $15) was necessary things, a large chunk of that (his insurance and his tire) wasn't even MY expenses.
I point these things out to him and I think he's just pissed about finances in general, but of course he doesn't apologize for blaming the whole thing on me.
