You're not a wuss - non of us assume that anyone's pain is worse/better/more bearable, and it's well known that Stage 1 can cause more pain than stage 4, it just depends on the areas, the level of inflammation etc. It's not a straightforward disease!

Yes apparently I had a full service with the laparoscopy and the hysteroscopy, then the D&C and coil. Think they wanted to clarify that there was no internal infection or problems causing pain too which there was not. Yes I have three neat little incisions. I am over the moon that I didnt require open surgery, it's funny how your mind can convince you that it's going to be the worst case scenario.
Glad to hear Im not such as wuss! The level of inflammation makes sense as my first lap in Oct (when they thought it was my appendix) said my pelvic area looked really inflammed and bulky (nice)!
I shall get back to my peppermint tea now!

Nice - 'full service laparoscopy'!
No, you're NOT a wuss! The level of pain doesn't depend on HOW MUCH endo was found, but more WHERE endo was found.

I fully second that, from experience, I was so much worse off, pain and side effects wise when I had my second lap surgery last year... but there was nowhere near as much endo as when I had my first surgery. Seriously I was puking and crying and badly overdoing it on the pain pills, yet there wasn't huge amounts in there like the first time. There was talk of a minor blockage, yet my intestines were only overgrown (like ivy on a building) and not twisted up and strangled like it felt. Even if the endo were to regrow in the same place it could give you a lot less pain, pain that feels so different or even worse... cut yourself some slack, our bodies can sometimes signal that it's the end of the world when it's not something that looks serious. Take trapped nerves and funny bones for instance!

Im so glad I found this web site, it is so helpful to hear others experience. So very comforting to know I am understood.
Not sure if this should be another thread but I wondered if anyone has had problems with work being understanding of the condition at all?

OH MY GOD YES people have been through hell with their jobs not caring! I'll direct you to this girl's story of how she got fired for missing so much work because of her declining health. It's so F'd up!! Read the whole thing if you have time. Toward the end she mentions how her boss told her that her heavy bleeding and pain was no excuse and that all women have periods. UGHH!!!! cjlevett.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=introductions&thread=3502&page=1

I'm quite lucky, although my boss is a man, he understands. Our HR dept are both women I'm friendly with. I've taken next to no time off work s far, but I know if things got worse they'd know I had a good reason to be of sick. We're better protected in the UK about this kind of thing though, feel sorry for you gals in the US.

My surgery went well and I'm feeling a little better than I expected. The gas moves around my chest cavity when I move and causes the most pain. I just started feeling sore around my incisions. My throat hurts from the tube the put in. And going potty is a whole new experience. i go sit and wait for it to start and stop for about 5min or so. Very wierd and long process.
Other than that I'm doing okay.

Hi Everyone, I just had my 1st Laparotomy on June 23rd and I have this really UGLY, GROSS "HANGING FLAB" OVER MY HORIZONTAL SURGICAL INCISION...LOOKS LIKE A BELLY 'MUSHROOM TOP'!! OMG! Please, ANYONE...Tell me HOW to get rid of this thing!!!! I'm a small petite person, usually with a fairly flat tummy area...and now I feel so upset about how ugly I look. It's like I'm carrying a jelly bag over my incision. I feel desperately...ugly...please help...how long does it take to go away? or is it permanent?!?

Hi, I had my Laparoscopy on monday and wasnt really given any clear guidelines when to remove my dressings. So i rang up the hospital 3 days later and they said keep the dressings on for 6 to 7 days. So today i took them off and the smell from my bellybutton nearly nocked me out! It was scabby also, is that normal? Anyway i called the hospital to check if that is ok and they said i should of removed the dressing alot sooner - but they told me not too! Anyway she said shower and dont use any soap and it will be fine. Its very red and still smells a bit after my shower. is that normal? What did other people do and when can you start to get soapy water in there. Also when do you get the stitches removed as i seem to have conflicting advise! you would think a common procedure like this they would give you some leaflet on after care. Hope you can help Mel

Oh I had exactly the same questions after mine. Jenaya was really helpful. It may differ from surgeon to surgeon, and I don't want to worry you, but when I took the dressing off my belly button and the steristrips came off, I swear, there was nothing there, nothing at all. If I didn't know better I'd have said I wasn't even cut. Redness and smell suggests to me the possibility of infection - is it very sore? My stitches were internal so they just dissolved away after a while. Really really good handiwork! Didn't they give you dressings to change yourself every day? I wouldn't get it too soapy just yet, another few days of healing first maybe. If you're still concerned you have to go back and ask them again tomorrow! They should have a duty of care to see you if you're worried.
