Cass - here's the actual program that outlines the training program. I don't use the ipod downloads, just use a stopwatch to time things. Is that what you meant? www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtmlIt's a great program in that it gradually gets you up to running longer distances, both physically and mentally.

Went for a swim after work - did some laps, some water running, and some ab stuff in the water. Funny thing - there must be something in the water that my cat doesn't like. I was just sitting on the couch and she came up behind me - could hear her sniffing, then next thing you know, she was swatting and chewing at my hair! She must be on crack again...
Seems like I'm getting more twinges where I normally have pain after I work out lately. It's not bad or anything, but annoying.

I managed to get some form of exercise in for at least 15 minutes a day (most days were about 25-45 minutes, some days were just 15 minutes) each of the last 8 days! I know for some of you that's nothing, but for me to even THINK and REMEMBER to work out every day was huge for me! Usually I don't carve out the time.
I also felt really good this week. Had some cramping a few days before and after I ovulated, but not much of the normal every day pain - very minimal. Don't know if me feeling good is what motivated me to exercise, or if the exercise meant I felt good. Whatever the case, I'll take it and use the momentum! Oh, and I was super careful about what I ate this week (but not this weekend) and made a point to drink lots of water. For me, that seems to make a big difference, too.
On another note, the weather is fantastic here! The sun is shining, not a cloud in the sky, temps in the upper 70s, and a good breeze. Just got back from a run in the nature trails across the street - I probably passed at least 50 people on just a 30 minute run/walk! (That would be week 4, day 2, Tess - still following the couch to 5K program, just not 3 times a week...) Sooooooo nice out!!!

Lucky you Olsenka! It's been stormy here lately and my poor puppy hasn't been on a walk in ages because i refuse to go out walking in the rain and cold!! I really wish it would ease up because i think walking would be a great way to ease back into exercising, i feel ready now after lap. My sister has a treadmill so i can try and go there and use it.
Great news that you exercised every day Karen, that's a big achievement! I am having my own celebration for going to work every day last week (what with lap and a cold i've had lots of time off over the last month or so, it feels like i've been sick forever!). I know to many people it's just normal, but to me it is a big achievement! So i know how you feel in that sense.
It's probably a win win situation0 you feel better because you exercise and you exercise because you feel better. I hope it stays that way for you!

So I finally just went back to the gym for the first time since my lap. Did about 20 minutes of power walking on the treadmill and a teeny, tiny, bit of of easy ab work. Did lots of stretching too. I'm not gonna lie, it was rough, but I'm proud of myself I made it through....it felt good to be in there again!

Hey I walked around Home depot and Walmart yesterday! Without crying and without pain pills!! It was a novel experience. I also went dancing saturday night and I was sure I wasn't going to be able to do that. It was so... cool! I shaked my groove thing! Bwahaha... My recovery time is a lot slower but I'm happy to start feeling normal. I can't wait to start swimming. Just have to get my kids and myself healthy again (summer colds) and hit the lake!!

I am having my own celebration for going to work every day last week (what with lap and a cold i've had lots of time off over the last month or so, it feels like i've been sick forever!). ^And woo hoo for that! Here's hoping your streak continues, too! I contribute my success to having found some exercise videos. It's much easier to fit in a short workout if you don't have to go anywhere! Now that my once-a-day-for-a-week-bootcamp is over, I'm going to ever-other-day with it, with some running and Pilates sprinkled in. I'm expecting my lovely period in the next week or so - I'm trying to get as much in before then as I can to see if it has any effect!

Ok, I'm TOTALLY keeping up with this routine of diet/exercise!!! I got my period today and SERIOUSLY had no idea! I've had very minimal pain the last few days and wouldn't have even guessed it was here... I have no idea how the next few days will go, but I'm stoked for today!!!

Woo hoo - I've gotten some form of exercise every day (except 1) for the last 2 1/2 weeks! Trying to mix things up between 16 minutes of a video tape for when I don't want to leave the house, running, walking, and biking. It's good to feel like I have the momentum, my body isn't fighting me, and I'm starting to notice subtle differences with my body. (By the way, me posting about this is more for my sake than anyone else! I do much better with accountability!!) Oh, and Cass - I thought of you this weekend. Took my bike out for the first time in probably 2 years and went around the trails by my house - totally kicked my butt! I thought of you kicking ass with spinning and it got me up some hills, so thanks!! How's everyone else doing these days??

so after years of playing high level basketball and netball and gruelling gym sessions i am now wishing i stretched properly after every game and workout. My calf muscles are so tight and short that it hurts to even straighten my legs. Crazy huh!
it is mainly a resulf of lack of proper stretching, so now every morning, afternoon and evening i am stretching my calf muscles to try and loosed them up. I have the worst flexbility in the world, i have long legs and a short torso and always failed sit and reach test at school.
Anyone else have this issue? I am booked in to get a deep tissue massage to see if that helps. i want to be able to stretch without it being excruciating!

Oh and I highly suggest doing a Rolling Stretch for Plantar Fasciitis. You will feel amazing!
For those with heel pain and plantar fasciitis - once your pain and swelling have begun to subside, perform this static stretch three times a day. Continue to use this stretch to prevent recurrence of plantar fasciitis and heel spur.
1. Sit in a chair or the edge of a bed. 2. Place your foot on a hard round or cylindrical object such as a rolling pin, rubber ball, golf ball. 3. Press the foot into the bar or ball and roll the foot over the bar or ball. 4. Roll for 30-60 seconds. Repeat five times.
