does anyone have a rough estimate on how long this continuous cramping pain goes on for after removal of endo? i had a lap last year to diagnose me, and the pain was not like i am having now. i am assuming it is because of the actual lasering that was done....my doctor said wait until OCTOBER. that seems like too long. i have been taking the ib800s but i am going to hold off on those for awhile so i still have a stomach-and i think i am immune to them at this point! i literally have a heating pad attatched to me (found one with clay inside that freezes and heats, with a velcro strap to keep on, meijer $11) been trying flexorals and those just make me sleepy. i have a new doc and i am a bit hestiant in calling and asking for pain killers (we all know how that goes!)

I dont' know. I was good to go a couple hours after my lap and never had any "lasering" pain. I'm guessing there's still endo that was left?

I know it's strange. The pain is very similar to when i would have bad periods...and he explained that it was something to do with how the scar tissue happens? it made sense at the time but now i am wondering some more. i sure hope it's not endo left, that would be NOOOO good!!! i had spotty endo all over and then adhesions just on my ovary.
*ouchy--does the term 'lasering' pain sound normal? i thought it was just the burning off of the endo? do you think i should call the nurse and ask?

They burn the endo off with a laser. Same thing.

Hi Faith, I had a lap in April this year, and my doctor told me the amount of pain would depend on whether they found anything, because if they found it they would laser/burn it off. I remember not long after i woke up i asked the nurse if they found anything, she wanted me to wait to speak to the doctor but i told her i needed to know because i was in a lot of pain and wanted to know if it was 'normal' pain or bain because of the 'lasering'.
To me it felt like really really bad period pain/cramping after i had the surgery. I spent a few days laying on my side, legs up with the heat bag. I dion't remember exactly how long it lasted, but the pain got less every day (until i got my period, bad idea to get a lap a few days before that starts!!). I think it probably only lasted around 4 days at a 'painful' level and then after that was uncomfortable for a few days.
It it lasts much longer for you i would definately suggest checking in with your doctor, ask them about what is 'normal' pain wise (ie. ask them to rate from 1 to 10 what is 'normal' for after surgery), and if your pain level is higher tell them and make sure you tell them that you're worried about the amount of pain you're experiencing.
Good luck, i really hope you are feeling better soon!

Gosh. And I had endo burned off of my intestines, appendix, cecum, pelvic wall, uterus, etc., and never had any post-op pain or any type of "lasering of endo" pain. Came straight home from surgery and did laundry and pilates. I feel so sad for those who have a rough go post-op. Hope you feel better very quickly!

Wow that is amazing ouchy! What a quick recovery, i'm amazed that you got over the anesthetic so quickly as well. That's one thing at least you can count your blessings for

yeah ouchy i would say you are fortunate the first lap i had i know i slept a lot afterwards from the anesthetic; the pain wasn't too bad it was mostly that carbon gas in my shoulders that hurt that time. he did laser off all of the endo (from what he said) and i remember waking up after surgery and they had to give me a shot of morphine then because the first thing i felt was pain when i opened my eyes (and a itchy nose from those stupid tubes!!)...they had given me percosets for the pain then....now it is just like i have cramping period-like pain (but not to the point that i am going to the ER) every day. i haven't had a period since june of 07; so now i am just waiting for that to finally happen. my doc said that will be painful and i am just praying it happens on a weekend! i am still just using the heating pad 24/7 and taking the IB800s but not as often. when the period does come though he better give me something to help if needed

^I'd ask for pain meds up front! The last thing you need is to be fighting trying to get a script called in to your pharmacy and then trying to get there while in a fetal position in your car!

so you think i should just call and say "i am expecting bad pain from the cramps that will come with my period; and if it comes on time it will be this weekend when a doctor is unavailable and i wanted to see if i can get a script called in ahead of time??"
i just wish they didn't get so testy with asking for pain meds...although i know people abuse them a lot, but if they have medical proof that pain is happening, i don't think they should judge you!

HUM. I'd honestly fib and say that you're on your period now and having bad cramps.

sooo...i called this morning before work (530am!!) and the message said the doctor was on VACATION until sept 5; so i left a message for the nurse saying i hadn't had a period in a year, have endo, just had surgery, and my cramps are really bad...asked for a nurse to call me back and call something in to help with the pain. the only thing is...i am not sure how much i sounded like i was in a lot of pain. who knows what will happen...i do know that i started getting harsher cramps this morning...who knows when it will happen!!

***update*** so i just got a VM from the 'office manager' since the dr. is out...her message said she wasn't sure what i was needing perscription wise; said if 'it was just about cramps' (like it was no big deal) then asked if i have tried motrin/IB800; said that it looks like the dr. noted he did remove all of the endo and when i came in aug 20th i was doing fine....
in other words, she doesn't sound like she is that willing to be calling anything in for me....so i am not sure what to say; i was a bit offended. HELLO i have endometriosis, have not had a freaking period in over a year...and of course i wasn't on my f'ing period when i went in for my follow up appt.
any advice? i am not calling yet because i will probably yell at this dumb woman.

Wow! That sucks that they played it off... But I don't think the nurse can call you in a prescription without orders from your doctor anyway. Can you go see another doctor who is there? That might be your best bet. Or a nurse practitioner, if you can get in to see one, can write you a script, even for narcotics.

oh dear. so i finally called almost 2 hours later...and just started talking and explained that i have been having cramps daily since surgery that i was taking IB800 for & it was kind of working. i said that i haven't had a period in over a year, and the cramps are pretty bad...after i said that she was like "oh i didn't realize it had been that long, so yeah, you are going to have a bad one. i will call you in some vicodin to get you through this and if you have another bad one next month call the doctor and let us know" i sure hope i dont have a bad one next month!!!!
