Can't speak from personal experience (given my son is still in utero...), but the La Leche League manual, The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, says biting usually signals the baby is finished nursing and to use as firm a tone as necessary to communicate that it is not okay. They suggest starting with a gentle "no, no" and progressing to a firm voice until the baby understands. If that doesn't work, break the latch with your finger and put the baby down and tell her "no biting," even if she cries. Pick her up again immediately, but don't put her back to the breast until she calms down.
They also mention that with a proper latch it is impossible for the baby to bite since the tongue should cover the lower teeth/gum. They suggest trying to learn the signs that she's about to bite and keeping your finger near her cheek so that you can break the latch before she bites.
Obviously, this is just what the book says, and it may or may not work. The moms here might have better advice, but hopefully this will help in the mean time.

Hey everyone! Any advice on where to get clothes suitable for nursing? I realized that most of the things I have won't work because the button-down shirts are in my pre-baby size when my boobs were tiny; they won't button now. Thanks!

Baby Ouchy will be one in two days. I can't imagine weaning her. She's seriously addicted to breastmilk. LOL! When she gets hurt, she wants it. When she's tired, she wants it. When she wakes up in the middle of the night, she wants it. She's still so much of a baby. I can't imagine weaning her right now. I know so many babies who never get to nurse or are weaned at 6-months. I can't imagine cutting her off in two days from now. She doesn't even have top teeth (though I think she'll have one of them in the next week) to eat regular food with. I give her ground up whatever we're having, but biologically, at this point, she's obviously still a nurser. I'm definitely going to do child-led breastfeeding instead of mother-led weaning.
Wow. A whole year.

Oh. And the silly goose was playing with one of her birthday balloons during this morning's nursing session. LOL! She kept yanking it by the string and watching it go up as she was nursing. She's soooo silly!

Don't wean her, then. As long as both of you are happy, keep going. Happy birthday to Baby Ouchy!!

Thanks, anneny. I'm totally not weaning her. I just can't imagine how some babies are just cut off cold turkey the day they turn 6-months or 1-yr. I just can't imagine doing it. We're going as long as she wants.

As long as she's not doing it when she's 10! lol I really don't see why it's such a big deal to keep breastfeeding? There really are only positives.

i think 1 is a good age to wean them off. obviously its easy for you to make that decsion as you dont have to work and mums that need to go back before 12 months have no choice than to do it sooner. i know there are numerous benfits but as long as u dont become that weird ass mum int he you tube clip its ok i guess!
