i was told again by the consultant to pump in between because the more I pump the more likely I am to not menstrate.
So I guess that consultant does not know much about breastfeeding. ugh I hate getting bad advice. Thank you so much for clarifying things for me.
But she said one of the reasons it could also be watery, besides the fat, is becasue I am not feeding enough. due to Emmi sleeping throught the night. I am going too long in between feedings. So what do you think about her comment to that?
How did you learn so much? I have always been one to research and educate myself on things I am doing but am obviously very behind on breastfeeding education.

I have had a few really crappy LC's! I had one fabulous one in the hospital...tragically, she came the day we left instead of right away, and the nurses totally F'd us over and it wound up a big mess with finger feeding formula...which led to nipple confusion and sh*tty latch! Having huge boobs and a baby not even weighing 5.5 pounds at the time was really challenging! Also, I apparently also have relatively flat nipples. Add to that overactive letdown and oversupply....it has been a nightmare--but we're making it!
I have decided to become a lactation consultant! If I can make it, anyone can! LOL! I just read and read adn read and read!
She is right about pumping in between would mean the less likely you are to have a period, but you could also wind up with oversupply. Due to the *NATURAL* watery content of breastmilk, that is why breastfed babies aren't meant to sleep through the night. I dont' think that has a darn thing to do with it being too watery. Foremilk/hindmilk imbalance usually has to do with overactive letdown and oversupply. And you can have overactive letdown without the oversupply. Once I got my oversupply cured, I still had overactive letdown and have to block feed several times per breast to make sure she gets the fat she needs. If I don't, her poop is green and not the traditional yellow.

Wow, we actually have experinced a lot of the same things it sounds like. My daughter was jaundice and lost over a pound in the hospital due to being Cooms +. So they MADE my supplemtent with formula. I refused to give her a bottle becuase I was worried she would not take my breast so I syringe fed her. it still caused nipple confusion. I also have inverted nipples so it made things real hard for the first 4 weeks or so. Thankfully things have gotton a lot better with latching on and we have become pros at breast feeiding.

Wow! Mine had jaundice, too! They forced us in to formula, too. THey wouldn't let me bring my friend's breastmilk in for her to drink, even though she's been tested for everything and has the papers to prove she is negative for everythign. I wish we would have snuck it in, though. The formula constipated her something awful! I'm glad you guys are pros now! It's been really rocky here the whole time. Her latch got so bad once (from giving her an orthodontic tip pacifier) that she couldnt' even latch on to my finger!!!! I saw another LC for that, and the retard told me to put her in the crib and let her cry for 3 hours until she is really hungry, and THEN she would latch properly...I just told her..okkkkay....we're finished here! I am a pro now at re-teaching her how to latch. LOL! She does get bottles maybe once or twice every couple months, and we've had good success with the "Breastflow" bottles. She has to compress the inner chamber or she doesn't get anything out! I make her work for it when she gets a bottle now. LOL! Oh. And I'm staying with the slow-flow 0-3 month nipples for added difficulty

We give my daughter a bottle every night befiore bed, it is my husbands bonding time with her. We like the Dr. Browns with the stage one nipples for the same reason.... difficulty. She will not take a pacifier at all not even the silicone soothie ones........sometimes I wish she did.
I could not just let my daughter. I would have walked out to.

We tried the Dr. Browns w/ slow flow, but she'd just hold her mouth open and let it drip in! Grrrr! I really liked the design of them because she has reflux, too! But her latch was crap on it!
It makes me wonder if some of these LC's have ever breastfed a baby!

After everything I was told by a LC and then corrected by you it makes me really mad and seriously do wonder if they ever breastfed. Probably not though or there nipples would have fallen off and have gotton breast infections.

Oh oh oh! I forgot to tell you that babies are more efficient suckers than breast pumps are, so if you could get her to your breast more frequently instead of pumping, that would likely suppress ovulation better. Is there another way your husband could bond with her in the evenings (and then she'd be at your breast)? Maybe like a bath or something?

Well i go to school in the evenings so we really wanted to make sure that she was use to that bed time feeding with a bottle. So even on nights I am home we have continued the bottle for the bonding and to make sure she stays use to it.
yeah i am sure there are other things he can do with her for bonding. But the bottle so far has been the only thing the he does that I dont.
I know the pump it not as effective as her suckling that why I was worried about her bottle feeding so much while i am at school. I am still pumping those bottles but I knew the pump does not get as much. I tend to manual espress more milk even after I pump because I can get more.
Maybe we should concider me nursing on the evening I am home before bed instead of him giving her a bottle. I just hate to take that from my husband.

If you explain the situation to him and that you don't want your periods to return and that any amount of sucking she does at the breast (even non-nutritive..using you as a paci!) will help stave off your periods, I'm sure he'd understand. LOL, or you could let HIM nurse on you! JUST KIDDING!!! P.S. I was told this by a LC (who knows how good she was, though..lol) that as long as babies have one bottle a week, they'll be okay with it. We've gone over 2 months without one because I wanted to make sure she was going to keep her latch, and surprisingly, she took it right away when offered again, even with the different nipple (Breastflow). I do know every baby is different, though. Oh. And another trick to get more fat is to massage the breast after letdown is finished, while you're feeding.

Thanks! Lots of great tips here. I think we'll probably end up getting a snuggle nest and using the bassinet from the Pack'n'Play right next to the bed. The article you linked is so helpful!
You gals are the best :-)

I was told to massage the breast after let down by probably the only LC that was helpful, the one who I saw for all of 10 minutes in the recovery room I didnt know I had to do it though while I was still feeding! I was also told to feed for atleast 15 minuted on each side to make sure she gets the most important part of my milk. It seems though that I am empty well before 15 min. Am I doing something wrong? LOL I have told him to nurse on me as a joke. He said it is sweet. I am a little scared to try it my self. I have also had other men ask to buy my milk. Kind of off subject but men are a little disturbing.

Kind of off subject but men are a little disturbing. Ahhhh! The entirety of the milk doesn't end until 30 minutes--there are 3 phases! If you want her to get all of the hindmilk, let her finish one side before switching to the other. Don't time her and switch at 15 min. In fact, you can feed entirely on one side and be fine. To make sure she has finished a breast, keep doing compressions when she stops feeding. If you keep compressing and she's not drinking, she has finished the breast. I'm looking for an awesome video by a male LC, who happens to be the BEST I've found so far. His website has been sooo helpful. Yah. I can't believe they told you 15 min!!! There are 3 letdowns, 10 minutes apart...and 3 phases of milk! The third phase is the fatty part!

Have you been taking her off after letdown and then massaging and then putting her back on? I'm confused. My baby only feeds for 7-10 min. now, so I have to block feed to make sure she actually gets to the fatty part. You can express a little and see the fattyness of the milk. BTW...freaky about the guy wanting to buy your milk! LOL...how does that even come up?
