That theory about expanding insides makes sense, cos your ears go nuts on flights and I usually come off the plane half deaf! But the expanding, what little there is, takes place at high altitudes (rising and expanding). Didn't you experience this most upon landing, at low altitudes/ground level?

I'm not a doctor it's as much a mystery to me as anyone else. I just jumped on it cos it was the first logical thing that could explain it. It's very frightening when it happens so any explanation makes it easier for me to handle what's going on, cos all I have to offer in that kind of discussion is how much it hurts me.

Saw the doc today and at my request saw a registrar rather than the consultant. Positive overall, long story short I have been referred to a specialist in May, who will then arranged a lap with burning (I will ask for excision where poss if it comes to that though) Have to say though the exam was painful! She tried to get a small speculum in and it brought tears to my eyes, then the exam itself was very unpleasant. I felt a bit sick after. I'm very glad that I haven't just been dumped out of outpatients again though and hopefully my lap will be done and dusted before my trip in Sept cos I'm looking forward to getting away. Thanks for the kind words and support xx
