Thought it would be helpful for those of you who have beaten the blues and worse, to make little lists of things that have helped cos I learned a lot from things other have suggested on here!
mine go as follows (but isn't limited to)
*smile even when you don't want
- I found that just looking for a reason to smile has changed my moods a lot! But experts do say that smiling and laughing boost you in brilliant ways. Find the happy thought and go with it!
* when the endo isn't too bad, get active
- make the most of the good days like a sunny day, spring clean, reorganise, go walking and window shopping
*be creative
- write, draw, sing, sculpt do a little dance, make use of the negative energy, give it shape, a voice, and vent it.
* do something to make someone else feel good
- focussing on someone elses sadness helps put yours in a different light for a while which can be good. Also nothing beats doing something for someone that only you could do.
*try your absolute hardest to put a positive slant on every heartbreak and bad thing, endo or not
- , try to word your thoughts differently and where possible make it a positive thought, be less critical of things and people around you, look for silver lining, the rainbow, the calm in the eye of the storm.
*focus on happy thoughts and what isn't going wrong
- when there is nothing i can do to feel better, I just think about what I still have and what I want in the future. My good relationships, what I can achieve, good memories and the things you like in other people.
*hugs and stuff
- a touch is worth more than a thousand words to most of us. Again hug - ology is a proven science! If it's just a teddy (plush toy) or a sympathetic health professional, or someone you love, your pet, a friend you haven't seen for a long time... a kind touch can break barriers you didn't know you had put up.
*talk about it
- I spoke to a doctor the other day about my lack of concentration, and it turned into a full blown therapy session. It can be like taking everything out of your pockets and laying it out, you realise how much is really going on. As they say, a problem shared is a problem halved!
*appreciate who you are
You look at yourself and believe me you see what would be a superhero in the eyes of others. Talking to a friend about things that had happened, they commented that I had been very strong. All I can say is that you don't necessarily want to cope all the time, you just do. But regardless of how you cope, or don't, you are always going to be an amazing human being in someone's eyes, and you should be this in your own eyes!
i honestly felt like i would crumble a few times this summer as there was a lot going besides my endo.
It was only trying to stay aware of my mental health, and taking focus away from my endo that stopped my full immersion in depression.
I fought with every bit of willpower i had to save my sanity and heaven knows I slipped up so many times.
I hope that others will post their tips.
And I hope to God that if you are feeling down that you come out of it ok.
The endo is hard enough without the shadow of eternal sadness on your mind.
Remember there's always someone here on your side xXx
