**This questionnaire has been approved by Carolyn Levett**
My name is Deirdre Page.
I am a 4th year psychology student at Monash University, Australia.
My personal experience with infertility has encouraged me to look at ways
I can assist others who have had similar experiences and as a result I
have chosen to focus my 4th year psychology thesis on this topic.
Specifically, I am looking at how a couple's relationship and the
relationship between their families/friends (supportive vs unsupportive)
can affect them i.e increased anxiety, depression, social isolation
etc...during infertility and any subsequent treatments i.e.
insemination/ivf.
Very few studies to date have focused on the couple, tending to look at
infertility from the woman's perspective. I find this surprising given
the statistics which state that infertility is evenly split between women
and men. Add to this the impact infertility has on both partners,
including their different coping styles. I am therefore interested in
gaining a better understanding of how the couple as a unit functions
during infertility, including any subsequent treatments.
The overall aim of this study is to try and improve the quality of
support between the couples themselves, including from their
families/friends/colleagues, including from infertility counsellors -
I've found that this is quite a major issue for infertile couples.

I thank you for your time and look forward to hearing from you.

Deirdre
