I noticed that some of you made mention of letting the doctor know what's okay to remove.....how common is it that you wake up missing parts and pieces? I'm a little nervous, as I'm set for my first lap on Thursday.

I am not too sure how often people wake up missing parts with out consent. before my surgery I had a Pre-op and we discussed the 'WHAT IFS' so worse case scenario what am i willing to have them do. almost a year ago mwilmot posted a suggestion of googling your Dr. with the key word endo to see if thay are published. I did that and of course nothing came up for mine, but one Dr. in my area did. I was so excited that there was a Dr. in my area with these certifications.... then I realized she was not on my insurance, go figure.

I know they are obstructed from the infection, but am wondering if that is why I'm still having such excruciating pain on my left side (between hip and naval, where my left ovary/tube should be, approx.) I am also wondering why my gyno hasn't mentioned removing the ovary as an option... Is it safe to just leave the infection behind? (I've asked my doc these things, I'm just so skeptical...)It can't be ok to just leave infection there, forever, just rotting away, there must be some consequence. I just had surgery 6months ago, and I fear I need to go in again. As I read in Cass' journal, it's like you want them to do whatever they have to so you're better, but at the expense of what? On another note, umm, PID being short for? I really don't think the infection is still there. It has to be scar tissue. Sometimes std's can give you pelvic inflammatory disease(PID) which is extremely painful and often requires hospitalization in severe cases. PID can cause a lot of scarring and even infertility. I am guessing that you probably have/had PID as a result of the clamydia infection. Infections can't be left for months and months, you would get extremely ill with fevers and sepsis.

im thinking of having laser, then mirena put in,any ideas on questions girls for when i see the surgeon in 17days.i dont know what to expect. Just to share my experience, I had the mirena and it was absolutely horrible. My uterus rejected it for months and months and my doctor kept telling me the pain was "normal". What an idiot. I was in more pain with that than anything in my entire life. I found out later that getting an IUD isn't a good idea for people who haven't had children. Worst experience ever!

MAN I really feel good about my doctor. Today the pre-op nurses called me and scheduled my pre-op crap with the anesthesiologist and the nurse. Then they tell me that my doctor has a mandatory appointment "just to talk and answer questions". But the best part is that it's an unofficial visit which means he just kinda squeezes me in AND doesn't charge a co-pay! He does it on his own time!!! She then said that the doctor wants me to make a list of questions and bring it with me and suggested I read more about the procedure and about endo. Seriously.. my mind is boggled. I've NEVER had a doctor this thorough before! I think he's been around the block so many times with us crazy endo people that he's developed a system. Seriously, I feel so much more confident about this guy. WOW..
P.S. my lap is on June 3rd!

As far as I know, pre-ops are pretty standard. I've also never been charged a co-pay for either a pre-op or follow-up as it relates to a surgery.

Jenaya - isn't it funny that we don't EXPECT a doc to take the time to do that?? Glad you feel good about things. Start making your list now and add to it whenever something pops into your head! I'm a pro at thinking of great questions when I'm NOT sitting in my doctor's office and almost always walk out of an appointment with all the great questions I thought of still in my head. Duh!
Best of luck with your pre-op!

I'm kinda curious, when you guys have had your laps, did your gyno do it or did they refer you to a surgeon? My gyno is doing mine.

My gyn did mine. She does a ton of 'em, does lots of gyn surgery each week, so I felt quite confident in her skills.

Thanks for pointing me to this thread, olsenka! My appointment with the surgeon is in 9 days (August 27). I don't even have a gynecologist, so I guess the surgeon will be doing mine! I didn't even know gyno's did surgeries! I have written up a bunch of questions to ask him, but I'm glad to find the questions posted here, there is a bunch here I haven't thought of.
I am going to ask the surgeon, if there is no endo, can he check for other causes of pain, and check for other causes of infertility.
Also I will ask if they can they give me something for post-op pain other than acetaminophen or morphine, because I can't take those, due to the medication I am on.
Of course I will warn him thoroughly about my seizure disorder, because I am terrified of convulsing after a surgery and ripping open stitches or something like that!! Maybe overreacting, but yikes, still scares me!!
I will ask what parts of my body does the lapo look at; where all can he check to see where there is endo? Can he check for endo IN my bladder as well as on? Will he remove cysts if he finds them?
Now that I have read this I will also ask how much experience he has and how much of a success rate! Thanks for all the questions and advice provided.

be sure to ask about if endo or "scar tissue" is found on your appendix if you want to keep it or have it out.

be sure to ask about if endo or "scar tissue" is found on your appendix if you want to keep it or have it out. Great question! Before my lap, my doc and I agreed that she'd remove my appendix regardless. Her thought was if it wasn't being aggravated at the time being, it might later on since my pain was mostly on my right side. Turns out my appendix WAS affected, so I'm glad I gave them authorization to remove it. It's certainly up to you and your doc, but something you might want to discuss.
