So... I'm making the plunge. I'm taking ovaries, and everything out. He is going to try and clean as much endo as he can while he is in there. I know its not a cure but I'm tired of pain that is associated with my uterus itself and ovaries. I have fluid in my one remaining tube and a possible endometrioma on my ovary so they are all going bybye!! I also have a prolapse just like I thought I did. stage 1-2 is all but still will be fixed while he is in there. SO I'm at least glad someone finally listened to me and I was once again proved right in my 'self' diagnoses. I told my hubby, "I'm vindicated once more!" My mom is going to come up and take care of the kids. He said I did not have to stay 3-4 days that I can go home as soon as I want and that was cool. My doctor has his good moments. LOL

My hubby was able to come to the apt. so that was awesome. Then the hubby left and the doctor did an exam. I didn't have the prolapse I was afraid of! That would be the only good news. He did an ultrasound as well which took a long time trying to figure out their new u/s machine. So you don't have a prolapse but you do???

YUP, to clarify... I do have a prolapse! I don't know why the other doctor missed it although I have been a good kegeler and maybe it wasn't prolapsing as far? The other thing is dr. myers had never seen my V and Dr. sublette has so he would know if it was different. Which it was... LOL

LOL. I'm confused. I just hope you get a TON of relief! We have had a lot of members who leave the forum after hysterectomy bc they get 100% relief. Hopefully you'll get just as much relief. P.S. The dress in your pic is super cute!

Karla - I know this hasn't been an easy decision for you to come to, but I really applaud you for ALL the research you've done, and your persistence with your docs! I ditto Ouchy - here's hoping you get some relief!!

I definetly will keep everyone updated. My hubby is letting me get a laptop just in time to take to the hospital! I can cruise the board from the comfort of my hospital bed and update my facebook status. Its my "bybye uterus" prize. I told him it should be an even swap but we have to pay for both. LOL I think I should have a welcome to menopause party like they did on Dharma and Greg. "Welcome to the life of a Crone". ROFL Hey, if this helps as much as it should then others who are done with babies and their angry uterus need to know!

Got home on Saturday, just taking it easy. Had a few rough days in the hospital, but the surgery went well. I had a radical hysterectomy and they removed about 5” of my large intestine. He is pretty confidant he got all the endometriosis out though, so hopefully this will be the end of it. I had an epidural in addition to the general anesthetic for pain relief, which was nice(thanks Cass! I read in one of your other posts you wish you had done this). They didn’t need to use as much general anesthetic and when I came out of it, I was very alert and not groggy from any drugs. The only problem was that the epidural wasn’t as effective on the left side of my body, so I felt some pain there, but nothing I couldn’t deal with. After coming out of surgery they were trying to take blood samples and I have bad veins. After three people trying and one blown vein the forth person called in from ICU was able to do it. The next morning I woke up and was feeling extremely itchy all over my body. They gave me a couple doses of Benydryl through my IV to see if that would help. Nope. My skin was so irritated from all the itching, Apparently I had an allergic reaction to a medicine in the epidural, so they had to use a different solution for the epidural, which was not as effective. But it made the itching stop, so that was nice.
Through the night Tuesday the nurse was not able to find any good veins, so kept poking me in the same place, ripping the tape off and putting fresh tape on each time. Woke up on Wednesday morning and my IV was not working properly. My arm was completely swollen and I was not a happy camper. They were able to find one other good vein and started a new IV. My surgeon came to visit shortly after and took one look at me and knew I was not doing so well. So he put an IV in my neck which had multiple tubes coming out so they could take blood from there as well. No more poking! Yeah! At that time I also needed to have a blood transfusion. After that, things were looking up.
Had to stick to a liquid diet for the first few days, and was feeling pretty nauseous. I hope I don’t see another container of Jello for a long time.
The epidural came out on Friday morning, and the nurse on duty told me I couldn’t have anything for pain until noon. Well, apparently she was mistaken, and by 11am I was in a lot of pain. The pain management team came in and gave me some meds, and things were soon brought under control. Other than that particular one, the nurses were amazing!
Just taking it easy. Every day seems to get better. I'm still feeling pain from the surgery, so can't really tell if it has taken away my endo pain, but will keep you posted!

Well, I'm all scheduled. 9/25 for pre-op exam and 10/7 for surgery. I'm going in for a Laparoscopic Assisted Hysterectomy. I am being very conservative with my surgery and hoping to keep at least one ovary. I know that the ovaries are the bad guys, but I had one friend who was good for 10 years and another who didn't need them removed at all. Both had Endo. I figure for me getting rid of 1/2 the problem will be helpful as with the uterus goes a fibroid as well. My doctor will also be resecting the endo off my bladder and excising any more that she can find.
Wish me luck and Karla, 8 more days, huh? Almost there chicky!

Well it's been a little over 7 weeks now since I had my hyster/bowel resection and I am starting to feel back to normal. Although, I don't really remember what "normal" is anymore.
I still have some tenderness and shooting pains from some nerve damage I had, but it has gotten much much better. I can walk without waddling around bent over now which is awesome.
The hardest part of my recovery has been trying to regulate my bowels. Around week 4 I had to go back to my surgeon as it felt like I was having labour contractions for a couple of hours at a time when I would need to have a BM. I wasn't constipated at all. He told me that the area where my bowel was reconnected was contracting instead of relaxing when I would need to go and that it would probably just take time for everything to get working properly again. He gave me some anti-inflammatories to help out and I have only had a couple of episodes since then. I am constantly going to the bathroom though. I'm just glad I can go now. The endo was stopping my bowels from moving before so this is much better. I also had a small hematoma that needed to be drained near my incision that is still healing.
I'm still on lifting restrictions and am not yet ready to resume sex yet, but I am a little scared to try that yet anyway. I am a little bit excited to see if it is pain-free though.
The good thing is that since I am terrified of getting backed up, I have completely changed the way I am eating, trying to avoid anything constipating and that has helped me get back more energy too!
