I'm glad your feeling better pain wise. It is an emotional roller coaster. I had the same problem. I talked to my doctor and switched hormones. I tried the estrogen patch, also. I also tried a couple of other kinds of hormone pills. I may have finally found one that works. I would talk to your doctor and see what they can try for you. It is tough, but will get better. Good luck. Lynette

I'm looking at a hyster. in the next couple of weeks...my confusion is- if excess estrogen is thought to a major cause of endo, and then they put you on estrogen after the hyster., could this be why it then recurrs?

I am not sure if that has any connection with the estogen....I am now about 6 weeks post op and feel much better.....No pain! Very nice.....I think they put you on some estrogen so that it keeps you balanced.....I am on the estrogen patch and now that they got it right it seems to be working really well....Let me know what you decide.......Andie

Actually, I have read that estrogen supplements are a major reason for it coming back. The primary reason is that the doctor often doesn't remove it all at the time of teh hysterectomy, so it's not really coming back, it was never gone. I ahve read that if you have a hysterectomy for endometriosis, that you should wait 3-6 months before you take estrogen so the stray endoemtrial cells have a chance to die out. If you take it right away, you are feeding them and they will grow again.

My best advice is, read as much as you can about hysterectomies and endometriosis before you make a decision. It's not really a cure and should be a last resort, as you would really regret it if you had it done and it didn't really help. The thing is that it's not you uterus that's causing the problem, so taking it out won't solve the problem. Please research other things first, and if nothing works then weigh your options with hysterectomy. There is certainly a lot to consider, as you know.

Mine was great for the first couple months. Maybe because I couldn't have it. The last couple months, I could care less about sex. I think it my problem may be that I am still so tired after going back to a 40 hour work week. They say that a decreased sex drive is one of the main side effects of hysterectomy. Good luck, Lynette

A few of you wanted to hear some possitive stories about hysterectomys so I wanted to tell you about www.hystersisters.com theres a section called "Triumph Over Pain" you can view posts of possitive experiences after a hysterectomy. also you can ask questions in the post- op secton which is a great place where women who have had the surgery can help you out. theres lots of helpful things on there even if your having problems with your sex I have learned alot there. Im posting this to help otheres not to, in any way try to get someone to leave this site to join another, I have been accused of that on this site when im only trying to help people. This site is great too I think its good to be informed as much as possible and to meet as many women with this as possible to learn all you can and get all the support you need. I'm in several groups for endo and I have made many friends from all over the place. I encourage you all to reasearch all you can and ask lots of questions since dr's leave most of us in the dark when it comes to this disease.

Hey to you all...I went to the doctor today and it has been about five months since my hysterectomy and gues what.....I HAVE TO HAVE ANOTHER LAP.....Has anyone heard of this? I go back to the doctor on the 20th of September...She changed my progesterone and told me I should decrease the estrogen as that could be the culprit...Any ideas would be wonderful...Keep your fingers crossed for me please.....

Hi, andie. I just read a previous post of yours, and it looks like you still have one of your ovaries, so it is still producing hormones even though the other has been removed. Sometimes even having a complete hysterectomy (both ovaries removed in addition to uterus) does not cure endometriosis, though it does for many women. If you still have an ovary, the estrogen produced by it is probably feeding whatever leftover implants that were not removed during your last lap. Having your uterus removed undoubtedly stopped your periods, but probably every month the leftover implants are breaking down and bleeding inside your body w/ no place to escape.

I had surgery in October of 2005 to have my right ovary and tube removed and went back in April of 2006 and had the left ovary, uterus, and cervix removed....I do not understand what is going on ... She said that I could be on too much estrogen...I cannot afford to keep switching meds and throwing others away....I do not know what to do....
