Hey there, short story, last year I had two lap and lasers (4 months apart) and confirmed that I definitely have endo. I also had a bunch of cycsts removed, and since then I have tried depo and 2 other contraceptive pills. On depo, I just had a period for 4 months straight and the second pill seems to be regulating my cycle and is ok.
I am really annoyed however, cos I am still in pain... and recently I have started having this really sharp stabbing pain in my lower abdomen which is a bit concerning. My stomach hurts every other day, but I have never felt this kind of stabbing pain.
I am so nervous that the cysts and endo is coming back... has anyone had this kind of pain??? please help!.
TIA

Hey Sammi79, Sorry to hear about your pain, however I have experienced that kind of pain and I still am experiencing it. my doctor actually put me on lyrica to help with pain but that hasn't helped me whole lot. I did had my endo came back once I started having these sharp pain got my laproscopy done and that didn't fix it. I am still in alot of pain so I go on June 19th to see my doctor and we are going to discuss surgery options I guess

From what I've read (on here and elsewhere), almost everyone who has endometriosis burned away describes the pain coming back after exactly four months. For some lucky people it takes longer, for others it doesn't last that long, but for most people four months seems to be the magic number. Very depressing. Apparently when it is lasered away it is not really gone. With excision surgery they actually cut it up by the "roots," so it has to start all over again growing and it takes years for the pain to start again (allegedly, in some people it doesn't even come back at all). But most doctors only do the laser thing even though it's less effective. I've had one laparoscopy and the endometriosis was lasered away (some of it) and I didn't even get a short reprieve from the pain! I decided I'm just not going to have surgery again until I can get excision. It's just too much to go through if it's not going to help.

I don't know what was done in my diagnostic lap but I hope to get some lasering or excision done as its obviously not enough to treat the hormonal side of the endo, there's all the trouble with the adhesions too. Knowing how much others suffer besides myself I hope to god they find something effective and fast, its terrible that they choose to cut out the womb, when in fact its the only place your endometrial cells should grow! Good luck xXx

Hi, everyone. Sammi, is your lower abdominal stabbing pain on the left side or the right side? I had stabbing pain on my lower right side, and it wound up being endo on my appendix. I had stabbing pain on my lower left side, and it wound up being endo on my sigmoid colon.

Thanks for the support guys! The pain is in my lower right side... pretty distinctly right, I have an appointment with the ob/gyn next week to investigate. I have never heard of the "4 month mark"..... Is that everyone elses experience?

I don't know about four months, it was less for me. Also have the stabbing pains. I realise how naive I was and how little information my doctor at the time gave me. I should have been more stubborn about trying to get answers out of him. It probably is best to have it checked but I aggree that having repetitive surgery is daunting when it is not that effective, it is a temporary relief, but with every surgery you run the risk of more damage being done. never mind how bad i think aenesthetic is. I was told that laps can be done up to every 18 months as a monitoring process. That scarred me- witless!

I actually can't answer regarding the "4-month mark," ...as I don't really know what was pain from endo and what was pain from the b.c. pills I was on all those years. Judging from the few months I have been off of the pill, I would have to say that my last lap helped me a lot, probably about 9 months or so, and I guess my first lap, and for the whole time between that until I decided to go back under the laser (was on the pill the whole time), was probably about a year-and-a-half. I guess I had more luck. I also think it depends on the skill of the surgeon, regardless of whether or not the surgery is with a laser. Some are skilled at lasering intestinal endo, while other docs are too scared to touch it. I'm now having period pain again, but not much pain mid-cycle...I thought I was, but it was just implantation cramping/miscarriage this past month... Best wishes!

Wow! Ouchy, you must be something close to Superwoman. I'm sorry for what you've been going through, and I'm glad you are feeling better about it. I don't know if I would be yet.
If you don't mind talking about it, how did the interview go?

Superwoman--far from it. I actually did break down yesterday. My husbands parents are here for a visit, and they brought beautiful pictures of the new grandbaby--my husband's sister had a baby about 2 months ago. There was one photo of the baby looking up at the mommy, and I ran to the bathroom crying... The in-laws had no idea what was going on, so we had to tell them. I got the tightest hug I have ever had from my mother-in law, which was very touching and made me cry more! I'm okay now, though. It was just a burst of emotional pain, especially knowing that I also ovulated again yesterday...and abstaining from relations so we didn't go through all of that drama again before finding out my hormone levels and all. The interview went well, and they called me back for a "working interview;" however, I guess they failed to make note that I would not be in the contintal U.S. during the time they wanted me to come back in. That bites! Oh well. I'd rather go on a honeymoon than audition for a job! Thanks, Meka! ---Sorry, sammi. I didn't intend to write so much of my personal stuff on your thread!
