Can we start a "Pain medicine that didn't make me sleepy" thread? LOL I think maybe they do it on purpose since then we rest more... but I have a family and stuff to take care of and my ponies need brushin' and my house needs cleanin' and I can't drive if I'm dopey! I liked the Ty 3 with codeine because It didn't knock me out. Didn't help very much but it didn't knock me out! BWHAHAH...

What hasn't worked: Birth Control Pills, Naproxen, provera, lupron What has worked (at least a little): Oxycodone w/tylenol, vicodin
At the moment, I'm on the Percocet with ibuprofen alongside Yaz. Supposed to be on the Yaz for six months before we decide to try another round of Lupron.

Right now I'm not doing any Hormones.. cause they mess me up too much... I wish I had a reset button for my hormones ..like my puter..
As for the Pain I take vicodin or codiene w/ Tylenol but these haven't been doing the job. It just makes the pain bearable (3-4 /10).
ibprophen is a joke for me same with extra strength tylenol.
I'm not liking the effects vicodin has because it spaces me out more then anything not to mention the moodiness i get from it.

I have taken Dilaten - its better than most, but I also take Vicaden from time to time. Percocet upsets my stomach After reading an early post, I agree that Darvocet works, but it backs me up too. Demorol - gives me a headache
I like the vicaden and dilaten the best, no side effects that really bother me.
good luck!

Ladies, This thread has made me feel that I have found hope and that I am not alone. I too have the medicine cabinet of an 80 year old. My husband and I joke about my medicine bag -- seeing as I have to keep laughing to get through the pain. Thanks for sharing with others.

What has not worked: Ortho tri-cyclen, twice. Depo-provera (worst side effects I've ever experienced in my whole life, also). Yaz/Yasmine. Lo-Estrin 24. Something else (a b/c I don't remember the name of). Midol for more than 1.5 hours.
What has worked: Darvocet/Vicodin, in conjunction with Flexeril and Advil.
Jury's still out on the lap. It seems my ovaries are still very pissed off at me for that.

I am in love with all of you, primarily for not making me feel like a junkie!
I've been taking Vicoprofin for two years. It's like Vicodin, only with ibuprofen instead of acetaminophen as the base. It works, but I've got "issues" with narcotics, so it makes me feel uncomfortable to say the least. I just switched to Tramadol, 50mg, three times a day and it's taken the edge off. (But I also had a lupron shot yesterday so I'm not sure what's what. It should be too soon for the lupron to work on the endo, so I'm assuming the Tramadol is effective.)
I feel high as a kite, however. New hormones, new painkillers, my skin itches, I have no appetite, I'm shaking like a leaf, and I feel like I could run a marathon or take an eight hour nap, but nothing in between. Thank God/Goddess/et al I found this board when I did. Bumpy ride.

i figure i'll put my 2 sense in this thread.....
Wut hasnt worked...Naproxen, morphine(up to 90mg daily) severe headaches, hydromorphone causes me to almost go blind and severe headaches, statex gives me severe headaches, oxycotin and unfortunately im allergic to demeral and vicodin isnt really prescribed in Ontario.
Im currently taking tylenol 3 with codeine which are bringing the pain from an 8 to a 2-3 for about 6 hrs but my doctor said if they arent working well enough for me to call her and she will give me percocet.
It sux that i dont have a drug plan to cover my meds but thank god we have free insurance for doctors appts, surgerys, hospital stays etc...the only thing that isnt covered in Ontaio by the goverment is a dentist and optomotrist

Let's see, I was put on Loestrin when I was like 13 for irregular bleeding. Loestrin helped straighten out my periods, but when I came off it I started having HORRIBLE cramps--I never had cramps before that, except for my first period. My gyno ended up prescribing me Naproxen as needed when I was 16. Went back on Loestrin when I became sexually active at 17, and it didn't seem to do anything for the cramps this time. Stayed on it except for a 15 month bout of Depo Provera when I was 19-20. Damn Provera made me gain 30 lbs. and I still had cramps. I finally started suspecting endo when I was 23 and had bad dyspareunia. The first thing my gyno told me was to take 4 Advil a couple hours before sex. That did nothing. Then she put me on a low dose of Lexapro. Also did nothing. She suggested PT, but I never went. So we scheduled my lap for Feb. 7, 2008. After my lap I had a few months of no pain, then it started coming back. I started getting daily cramping pain. I also had a Mirena put in at the time of my lap, but after we concluded it was endo, she said I should be on a BC to slow the growth of it, so I went on Lybrel (no periods!). I'm still on Lybrel and still have the Mirena, though I don't think either one does anything for the pain. Moved up to Vermont, got a new gyno, she wanted to try Lupron. I was skeptical, but desperate to get rid of the pain, so I went on it. It helped for 2 weeks, then stopped working. I had a 3 month shot, so I got to deal with useless hot flashes for another 2.5 months. After this, I was referred to a pain specialist. Pain doctor put me on Celebrex first, and the same thing happened as when I was on Lupron. Upped the dosage, same thing. Same thing with Topamax and Neurontin. Now I am on Celebrex taken before sex--it's a pain in the ass, but so far it seems to be working well. The drawback is that now I have my daily cramps again, but they are not constant, and never more than 2/10, so it's bearable. As a side note, in June 2009 I developed severe golfer's elbow, so was on Amitryptiline and Diclofenac for a while for that. I think the Ami helped supplement my crazy pills, and I think both helped with the pain. For crazy pills, I was on Prozac for 6 years, Lexapro for a year, then off everything for about 1.5 years. I started to get depressed again, so I went on Zoloft, then Effexor, and now Pristiq. I also had Trazodone for sleep while I was on Zoloft, but I didn't take it much, as it made me exhausted all the next day. Prozac and Lexapro made me feel like a zombie, Zoloft, Effexor and Pristiq have killed my libido. My GP is thinking it may not actually be the anti-depressants that are killing my libido, so she wants to keep me on Pristiq. It does work well as an anti-depressant, at least. One important note: being on anti-depressants for 9 of the past 11 years is causing a noticeable decrease in my cognitive ability. I am not a stupid person, I have an IQ of 135, but these drugs have really hurt my memory, especially when it comes to things from my past and recalling words. I sound like an idiot when I talk half the time, and it really irritates me because that's not who I am.

I was on BCP and antidepressants for 15 years. I do feel like I've emerged from a fog. It's funny that drugs like Amitryptiline, which I was prescribed 19 years ago as an antidepressant, is now part of a pain cream that my doc prescribed from a compounding pharmacy. I also took Prozac, Lexapro, and a few others that I cant remember. Now I take Tramadol 3xday, I've got dilaudid and percocet and vicodin and xanax, and I'm off the pill, and I'm not depressed, but I have endo. The endo started going when I went off the pill and my depression went away. Stupid endo! beats depression though, for me.

I agree, pretty. I think all my physical problems would be so much easier to deal with if I didn't have a chemical imbalance on top of it.

Trish,
Regarding quality of life now or concerns about future health - I know that we have to be responsible with what meds we take and how it might affect our health long-term, but as long as I make reasonable decisions and investigate meds thoroughly before taking them, I believe in my life is just for today because I am not guaranteed a tomorrow. I think the answer to your question is a mixed bag of always be responsible and cautious with your meds but also be willing to take some risk so that you can find the most pleasure possible in the living of the day you are currently experiencing. That is my philosophy. That being said, I have made a decision to cut back on NSAIDs due to the stomach damage and while that leaves me in a little more pain than before, it is manageable. It's all about balance for me. Thanks for your post and good luck with managing your pain and living a long healthyish life!

Cherry! Your meds are different in the UK, what do they translate to in the US? Did I miss a post about this? Sorry if I did.

RE: the tens unit - please be careful using it at home without specific instructions for a specific pain location. I work as an admin in an occupational therapy department and there are some areas of the body that you should not apply the tens unit especially if it is close to a major or vein, artery. I have one at home too and I always ask one of my faculty members where to place the pads depending on where my pain is located.

I am on BCP, starting after the 1st cycle after my surgery to remove chocolate cyst/ovary/tube. There is still a lot of endo left, my rectum/ovary/uterus are all adhesed together along with more chocolate cysts. With the most recent period, my doctor is trying me on the generic for Nuerontin (sp) It is an anti-seizure drug that is also used to help with nerve pain. I think it may have helped to keep the pain from getting out of control, especially on the 1st & 2nd day when it can be unbearable. This time on the 1st day, I only took 1 Nuerontin & 1 Vicodin & it lasted from morning till the evening!
It may also be w/ the help of the Birth Control Pills, just finished my 3rd month of them. Additionally I use Ibuprofen and Vicodin, especially on the 1st 2 days.
