Kristin and I made plans to meet since we both live in the DC area and yesterday I made the trip into DC to her house and got to meet the fabulous girl we all have grown to love! We had a great time! She gave my bike some tender loving care and new tires too! I had a great time and I'm so excited to finally meet her. I was classy enough to show up in my sweaty gym clothes but of course, she didn't mind She's just a genuinely good person, kindhearted, and so much fun! Her husband was a super nice guy too! He made us dinner; an ENDO FRIENDLY dinner! The neighborhood she lives in, HAHAHA I think I can tell stories for days on what we saw. Quite an interesting but very fun experience. It's probably the most entertainment I've had in a long time. Kristen, I can't thank you enough for giving my bike some love and for being such a great person. It was an absolute pleasure to meet you and I look forward to hanging out again!

We did have a great time--thanks so much to Jenaya for making the trip in! It was a bit weird at first meeting someone you'd talked to so much online, but felt normal soon enough.
I was a bit apprehensive about unleashing the full force of the neighborhood on Jenaya, but she took it in stride, even when the crazy man that rides his bike in circles around the block singing to himself challenged her to a race, or the local drug dealer was giving her riding advice while completely drunk. Thanks for not being freaked out by the characters on the block!
and thanks again for coming in. It was really great to meet!

YAY! So glad you guys were able to meet up and hang out! I'm so incredibly jealous...
Sounds like you live in an interesting neighborhood, Kristin! I have a suspicion you're friendly to all the characters in the area.

I think the people that live on her street don't know how to talk in any other volume except yelling. HAHA! They were so funny! People were yelling across the entire neighborhood to talk instead of just going to their house. Then her next door neighbor, a really sweet old guy, sits on the porch and is kind of the peacekeeper of the neighborhood. Then the drug dealer guy, damn he was hilarious! He helped us change the tires on my bike. There are just too many stories to tell all from one afternoon in her neighborhood. LOL it was better than TV! And yes, of course Kristen and her husband were super kind and friendly to everyone and vice versa.

The neighborhood is a very entertaining one. We really love it. We were actually looking at a bunch of similarly priced (dirt cheap foreclosures), in-great-need-of-repair, houses in various run down neighborhoods in DC, and chose our house because of Mr. Hawkins (the "neighborhood peacekeeper"). He reminded my husband of his dad, who died of brain cancer when my husband was 18. Shane and Mr. Hawkins sit on the front porches and gab together for hours. By comparison, they speak in "inside voices". Tommy (the bicycle-addicted drug dealer) was asking after you this morning, Jenaya. He was too drunk last night to remember we told him you live in the burbs. He thought you were moving into the 'hood. Thanks for taking it all as hilarious and friendly, rather than ghetto.

BTW, Kristin, based on your fireplace, I'm in LOVE with your house! I have a soft spot for old homes.

I told Tommy you'd come back and ride a bike with him, Jenaya . Don't worry, he's not nearly as fast as he thinks he is. He just is insane and specially gifted in how he rides through the city; on a trail, he's slow. and Karen, you'd appreciate this: it's not actually a fireplace! All the DC rowhouses built after the great fire in Chicago (our block is 1911 - 1912) were built with gas heat/lighting, not wood fireplace. But for some reason, they put these fake fireplaces in all of the houses. You can't move it for love or money, so we put a fish tank on it. And there is this hilarious "fireplace" cover, showing a scantily clad, grecian-type girl lounging in a tree--which you also can't move! We'd love to put a fireplace in, but there isn't a chimney, and there aint nothing behind there but the brick wall that divides our house from the next one in the row. There are still the gas lines going to the light fixtures though. We were trying to figure otu what they were for the longest time, while putting drywall in our busted ceilings. Then, while drinking 40s of coors light at 3 am in the morning after having had sex amid the construction rubble, we realized that they were. It was an inspired moment. And paint, my neighborhood and house are always open. I can't promise that it will always be as hilarious, but it's pretty much guaranteed if you hang out on the porch that you'll be well-entertained.

That's hilarious that you have a falsie! And the fireplace cover - classic... Original, I'm assuming? Can you imagine all the people through the years that never covered her up? Hahaha!
