Thanks you all. I'm assuming Jenaya's right, that she's had a small stroke somehow. She's lived on pure stubbornness for decade, so sooner or later something was going to happen. The sudden change just shocked me a bit. Thanks for writing back!

Have they checked her for any infections? UTI's in older adults can cause delirium and mood changes. It's easy to rule out if it's not that. I'm glad you got to spend some time with her, I know you've talked about her a lot with lots of love.

Semi, that is really interesting to me. I know, actually, that she often as UTIs and all sorts of other infection issues, but people are afraid to put her on too many antibiotics b/c her kidneys are shot. Why do UTIs cause delirium? That's fascinating!
Thanks for the suggestion though, so much; I'll talk to my mom about it and see.

I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother Kristin. My family and I have been going through something similar with my Grandma. She's doing better right now, but it's been really up and down. I'll be thinking of you and her.

I just want to send out a BIG thank you to you all, and particularly Semi. My grandmother did have a UTI, and she's now been on teh antibiotics a couple of days and is MUCH more lucid/less confused. She's still more confused than before, but she is just winding down, and won't be with us much longer. But THANK YOU SO MUCH for letting me know to tell my mother to get her tested!!!

That's great- I almost didn't write that because I was thinking they would have automatically tested for it. I don't know why, but UTI's are one of the main things to cause a rapid increase in confusion in the elderly (anesthesia can also cause delirium that is hard to shake). If it keeps happening, they might want to consider keeping her on a low dose antibiotic for quality of life so she can connect more with the ones she loves if her time is limited. Hugs Rust!!

I guess it's part of the problem that my grandmother lives at home with my parents still, so there isn't the same level of medical care. I think so much is wrong with her, that people sometimes forget to test the simple things. Doctors gave her up for dead 10 years ago, and with typical appalachian spunk, my grandmother told them all to go to hell, so she's been operating for a while on sheer stubbornness. I'll talk to my mom about a low dose antibiotic.
thanks again Semi! It's amazing to get treatment for one's grandmother on an endometriosis board.
