Yeah I ended up going out with some classmates yesterday and I was drunk at noon. HAHA! But "drunk" to me is 3 glasses of wine. Then I waited until 8pm to sober up and drive home. My exams were soooo freaking hard. I'm just happy to be done. I can get myself together now for the next month and then do it all over again!

My grades are all in: Mammalian Physiology A Physiology of Perception A Kinesiology sports medicine A- Biochemistry of physiology B Cellular neurophysiology B
SIGH. What a difficult semester. It's hard to be happy about B's when you're pre-med. It's so damn competitive. Oh well. I guess I am happy that I survived all these classes. lol One more semester to go and I'll have a bachelor's in physiology and neurobiology! Then I can cross my fingers and hope to God I get into medical school.

Good job Jenaya and I know what you mean about B's. In our nursing program you don't even get considered if your GPA is under 3.5. Everyone who is in the program is an A student. I think that's why the insult from my teacher about my test taking skills rubbed me the wrong way. Stupid B*tch, and I have to take classes from her for six more quarters. sigh...

Does anyone have experience with talking to professors about endometriosis? Or do you just tough it out? I had a laparoscopy in December and they did not remove the deposits that were causing me pain. My immune system is shot: I've had the flu 2 times in a month and been seriously ill both times. I switched to a low dose birth control after consulting a naturopathic doctor (and learning about some of the problems hormonal birth control can cause people with endo) and since switching I have been spotting painfully each week. This last weekend I had either food poisoning or the stomach flu (odd mix of symptoms) and I have stopped vomiting but I still still have a fever, stomach pain, no appetite, and pain when I eat even the most bland foods... to make matters worse I have horrible cramps today because I just started to spot again. I have midterms this week before spring break and I cannot imagine doing anything but lying in my bed in the fetal position... I am feeling so sick and so panicked and I don't know how to handle my academic future for the short or long term. If you talked to your professors, how did you explain it? How specific do you have to be? Did you do it in person, or over email? How did they react? I don't know how to handle this. I also have an internship and have not told my supervisor there, even though we have a much more personal, individualized relationship. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I had to tell my professor, my clinical instructor (nursing school) and the head of the college but that was because I was admitted for four days, missed two days of school and two days of clinical. I told them the exact truth. I didn't mince words. You can't be shy because of the nature of this disease. I know how embarrassed I get whenever I try to explain this to people but we have got to get over this problem and be proactive with letting people understand that its serious. Having a doctor who can write a note explaining the anemia caused by over-bleeding, and the tiredness that relates to that would be helpful. If you have a walk in clinic that you can get blood work or a doctor who is on your side that would write something for you... it just makes it easier to understand when its accompanied by a note. I have had to tell my clinical instructor that I'm not back to normal, not eating well, and I get tired easy, I also told her that I have to have lots of water/gatoraide right now to help. She understood and actually sought me out to make sure I took a break. When you are a stubborn lady like myself and push through all the pain and fatigue cause by endometriosis on a regular basis you will win respect, but only if they understand to begin with. If I didn't explain that to her and then I was having to stop and take breaks to drink, or sit for a while, what is she going to think of me? BUT by explaining that I'm pushing through all that, I think she respected that. Not everyone will be able to understand or respect this though, my own sister couldn't figure out why I thought I could go to school with all my health issues. I hope this helps? These are just things I did, and they may or may not work for you. Maybe draft a letter and post it here if you need to have someones opinion? The other ladies can add suggestions of things they thought of to add to it as well? It might be a great idea and something we could all use as a draft for ourselves.

I'm so happy to be taking a break from school, and even more happy that I will be going back. I had a few moments in the last two weeks when I thought I was going to be looking for work again. Having quit my job its a lot more stressful now when I get to the end of the quarter and I'm wondering if I will be coming back to school next quarter. What a freakin' rough quarter I had and every quarter I think its going to get better and every quarter it gets worse. The biggest change is we will only have school four days a week! Yeah! BUT, that's because we will be doing 12 hour shifts. I just don't' know if I can do a 12 hour shift. Its going to push me to my limit and beyond. I will have to get around a few of my notions about work ethic (I run from the time I get to work until I'm done). I'm going to have to figure out when and how to take breaks and to rest as often as I can or I will not make it through. I can't push, push, push at the beginning of the shift and hope I make it to the end. I will have to learn to pace myself.
