I feel like we all have so much in common, but we're living in such different locales, let's check it out? The picture is my front yard this weekend. The link is a recent Nat'l Geo list of Adventure towns... The Homestead restaurant is 1.8 miles down the road from my house! Just showing off... Attachments:

Here's my truck last weekend when it started snowing. I need to buy a new set of winter tires before I'll drive it to town. Hubby however has no qualms about driving on summer tires. He grew up in the interior of Alaska and has been driving on snow since he was 9 years old.... Attachments:

I live in Liverpool, the end. It's not interesting weather-wise (this must be a blessing for buildings insurance though), but it has beauty spots, even as a city! I will get out and take pictures. I only have a compact but it's a great little thing. You pics are fantastic pretty, just what I expect of living in Alaska. So are you having really short days now?

Yes the sun is up now at 9 am, just came up, and should go down again by 5. You know it's winter when you're always driving to and from work in the dark....and the snow. In a month or so it will be 10-4 and then even shorter before it starts coming back. The cool part is when we start gaining daylight, it comes on about 5-6 minutes earlier each day and you can really see a difference. All part of the crazy rhythm of the seasons here... I'm sitting at my desk and have a view of a pink and blue cloudy sky over the bay and mountains. I really do have the most beautiful view from my office will post a picture tomorrow. I've just taken one but can't upload it here... no port! will do it tonight at home...

What I wanted in this thread is just a little flavor of our lives.... I wanted to show my life not just the beauty of the outdoors but a bit of how we live up here. The bar scene is pretty strong not so much because we're all alcoholics but because it's a warm place to meet and be social... I'll try to get some photos of local characters soon, things like that are what I have always loved about traveling and I know that's what people rememeber when they visit us here. I'll try to show you what I'm after by example.... more soon. Pretty.

I work at a private boarding school in Oregon on 700 acres of forest land overlooking the valley. It is gorgeous! Most of the staff live on campus in the housing provided for the staff. This is the view from my kitchen window. I am originally from California and moved to Oregon to work at the school so my son could attend it here. He is 15. I am accustomed to being near the ocean and in warm weather. Besides that Oregon is beautiful. Your pictures Pretty were so awesome!! It sounds SO nice!! I have always wanted to go to Alaska. I live so far south that the birds don't leave in the winter! Augusta, GA. HOT summers, mild winters with a few days of spring and a few days of fall. Southern culture! Wow, I'm originally from Indiana and it's like a whole new world down here! It's good livin' though. I love being so close to so many coastal areas and it is an extremely historic region.

post a picture, J! I want to see that warm weather! yeah southern culture kicks my yankee butt every time. I have a lot to learn apparently about manners.... my hubby's family relocated to LA so when we visit down there it's really like entering another world.... a cool world, but soooo different you're right.
