From what I've read certain B vitamins, whilst water soluble, get stored in the liver. If your body is working properly, apparently you'll have enough B12 in your liver to last up to 5 years!! I've suspected B12 deficiency recently, so I've read a lot, and while my level isn't dangerously low, it's deffo on the lower side! And that reading was after I've been taking the occasional supplement. Must reiterate that supplements are not a way out of a crappy diet, just there for when you need a bit of a boost in some area. I know you definitelt pee out the Vitamin C the body doesn't need/use.

Dang a B12 deficiency is pretty rare and it's usually as a result from a malfunction in your body's ability to absorb it. I used to take a B vitamin supplement. I took this B-complex with vitamin C; it was specially made for people with a poor diet so I said, YEP! that's for me!! I actually really liked it. I'm a big fan of the B-complex. B vitamins are awesome in brain function and energy production. YAY go B-vitamins! Here's a picture of the stuff I used to take if you're curious. taimaikingchina.com/images/GNC%20B-Complex%20125%20with%20C%2060%20ea.JPG

I had H.Pylori a couple of years ago which can screw everything up and destroy the intrinsic factor that helps B12 get absorbed. Can't believe my docs haven't cottoned on to that.

This is all such great information. Thanks to all! I have read a few other books on Endometriosis (including both of Carolyn's; both are super helpful and supportive) but not the Dian Mills book on nutrition. I am ordering it today!
I did not know about the shortened shelf-life affect on vitamins/supplements from humidity in the bath or kitchen, though I do keep most of mine in the fridge. I do this mainly so that I see them first thing in the morning and remember to grab them for the day before I leave the house.
I have a question about EPO (evening primrose oil). . .I have read that it is not good to take if you are also taking birth control pills, as it somehow reacts with the effectiveness of the pill? Since I read that, I decided to take Fish Oil and or Borage Oil and Flax Oil instead. I began taking birth control pills as a part of my preventative treatment for Endo, after my laprascopy in September 2009. Has anyone else any information on EPO and birth control pills? Thanks!

Here's where proper diet prevails. Mother nature is freakin awesome. Most foods come in the perfect combos of vitamins and minerals. You don't have to ask a carrot if it has the proper nutrients to absorb vitamin A because mother nature already figured that out for you. That's why my alt doc is so into whole food supplements (the brand he sells is Standard Process www.standardprocess.com - pharmaceutical grade and only sold through health care providers). Plants are grown, minimally processed so they retain as much of their nutritional value as possible, and then mixed in the perfect combinations!

I'm pretty sure some high-ish doses of B vitamins are increasing my energy levels. I feel nowhere near as wiped out today as I have been, even after a seriously disturbed night's sleep!

Hi Missy, I'm late responding (a few months) but I do Women's One a Day, Omega 3's, and LOTS of exercise. Endo is one nasty beast and when my period rolls around I'm a completely different person, so exercise usually saves my life.
Yoga is a must, hot yoga is awesome to relax you when you are on your period.
I hope this helps
