2) I am one of the world's most irritable people with several 'pet peeves' - the worst one (other than people eating noisily) is people clicking pens. Drives me nuts I thought about you today! In one of my classes this girl next to me was not only clicking her pen over and over but it was also really squeaky too. It needed some grease on it or something. I thought, oh man if you were there you would have lost it! HAHA!

Seriously - I'd have had to leave the room. Did it not bother you at all?? It's become what I'm known for at every place I've worked - I give people dagger looks that could kill and they all try and do it deliberately to annoy me. Funny thing is when they do it deliberately, it doesn't bother me so much!! Most often people catch the look, give me an apologetic smile and stop. For a while. If someone does it when I'm having a 'mood swing' I picture ramming their head into the desk......nice eh? Lol.

Ooohh, just ran into this thead and have been giggling my head off. Honestly, automotive tech, brussel sprouts and champagne... you guys are wonderful!
Well she who takes must also give, eh? ...so here goes... (hoping the thread isn't stale)
1. My folks come from South India and I have the most unpronounceable surname. Really, in grade school whenever the teacher doing role call paused with a funny look on his/her face, I'd just put my hand up - that'd be me. 2. My first name comes from one of the names for the Goddess of Death. Sometimes that's very apt. 3. I learned English when I started school. When I'm really tired, I can forget what language I'm speaking. 4. I'm turning 42. Didn't Douglas Adams write that 42 is the meaning of life? 5. ...Doesn't that mean I should know something by now? 6. I sleep with my eyes open. 7. I've known my best friend since we were 5. Still hang out together. 8. Other best friend is hubby - have known him (ok ok, not biblically!) since high school. 9. We met in a debating competition. I came in first... he placed second. He says I haven't let him forget that! 10. I have a secret stash of regency romance novels that I pull out when I'm blue. 11. I love to travel. Especially to the off-the-beaten-path places. 12. Favorite places have been Morocco, Cambodia, Crete, Italy... anyplace with great food. 13. I know how to say "I'm a vegetarian" in about 10 languages. 14. I can cook by smell.... and if I smell a dish, I can usually reproduce it reasonably closely. But don't ask me to follow a recipe, I'd mess it up. 15. I teach in a research lab, so supposedly I should be able to follow a protocol! How hard's a recipe? 16. I was one of those kids who would plant a seed, then immediately dig it up to see if it had sprouted yet. Needless to say, I have a black thumb, but make a fairly decent scientist. 17. (this is getting really difficult) 18. I used to collect knives. My big brother (actually a cousin) taught me how to throw knives when I was a kid. And I fenced for a couple of years. 19. Same big brother died earlier this year. I am not over it, may never be. Miss him so much. 20. My sister is 15 mo younger than me. People think we're twins. If so, she's the fire twin, I'm the water twin. 21. She lives down the street from me. Sometimes that's too far away, sometimes way too close. 22. I neeeeeed my coffee in the morning. 23. I have no problem with heights, but am desperately claustrophobic. Discovered that while sitting in a tent on a glacier. 24. I'm also freakishly bug-phobic. Hubby won my heart in university Genetics class by sorting and counting my fruit flies for me. 25. I have an honours degree in English Drama. Really marketable, no? 26. I've been a (semi-professional... well, not like I could make my rent off this either) dancer for ~25 years and have the bunions to prove it. But I still love high heels. Where's the motrin? 27. I've been in one movie - an art film, I was a glorified extra. One of the more miserable experiences of my life. 28. I've been a doctor for maybe 15 years, newborn ICU. Still pull a lot of night shifts. 29. Canada is waaaaay too cold, I think I'd be happy if it was about 25 degrees C all the time; hubby would pick the frosty side of 0. He's got northern European antifreeze in his blood. 30. Have no kids, endo ate my tubes and the options didn't work out well. I am still sad about that. 31. I love having a place like this board to lurk, rant, and feel better. Feel the love, you guys.

Very entertaining! I loved it! Maybe your "goddess of death" name would explain your plant black thumb??? haha! Also I'm sorry to hear about your brother how did he pass away?

My turn...
1. My favorite movie is "A Fish Called Wanda." It's one that I can quote, virtually word by word (there are several others, but that's my favorite favorite).
2. Since 1992, there has been a death in my family every five years, like clockwork. Except for the extra one (why couldn't it have been the other way around, I wonder?). Looks like the next one will be in 2012.
3. I have rhythm, but can only dance when I've had a few alcoholic beverages.
4. I love music, and can analyze the shyte out of it, and my favorite songs, for the most part, are written in 3/3. But I have no musical talent of which to speak, and it pisses me off.
5. I take that back. I can sing. But I have a very weird vocal range, and my voice actually sounds better when I'm a little hoarse, or if I'm having some allergy issues (at least, to me, it does).
6. Death freaks me the f00k out. I just can't wrap my head around it. Those deaths that I have accepted, logically, I have never been able to reconcile. It just scares the pants off me. I have a feeling I'll fight my way out, to my very last breath. It's that bad.
7. I can only memorize things I don't intend to memorize. This becomes more and more true with age. And that's why I do not have a meteorology degree. Try as I might, memorizing things is just not working for me. I still, however, love the weather.
8. Re: #7, the nastier the weather, the better. I've chased storms for many years, but caught my first one only a couple of years ago. There have been some tornadoes that have hit the city of Fort Worth, and I missed them, every time.
9. If I could stand smells, I'd love to try to be an M.E. It takes a tremendous amount of compassion, I think, to do a job like that.
10. I am absolutely, certifiably crazy about cats. They're like little, hairy people.
11. I am absolutely not a dog person, but I am NUTS about terriers. They're like little, hairy people.
12. I learn something better when I'm teaching it.
13. I'm 5'8", and have amazing posture. I wear 4-inch heels regularly, anyway.
14. I weigh 170, but I walk like a 100-lb model.
15. My boobs grew in practically overnight, right after highschool. Right after they could've actually helped me out, a little, lol.
16. My parents are 49 and 50 years old. They both still get hit on.
17. I'm over 30, but don't look it. I hope that remains true, in the coming years.
18. If a guy can make me laugh, he's got a chance.
19. I like a guy who's a Silver Fox. Dr. Drew, John Slattery, Anderson Cooper, you know... dishy guys like that.
20. Scottish accents make my pants... pant.
21. A Colombian accent is quite unnervingly sexxy, as well. Sneaks up on you. Makes your knees buckle.
22. I love a man with red hair. Not "stepchild" red, but... you know... sexxy red.
23. I love 5-o-clock shadow, and the resultant beard burn. It's really, really hot.
24. I pick up languages really quickly, and I have never had trouble with even heavy accents.
25. When I crave sushi, it's really the wasabi that I'm after.
26. Purple is my fave color. All shades.
27. I have an old engagement ring, but got no proposal.
28. People tell me that I'm impatient, but if they knew my whole story, they'd stop saying that.
29. I have had some psychic moments, when I just knew things that I had no reason for knowing. It's not something I can control, though, and have not had a big one for a number of years, now.
30. I love broccoli, but it doesn't love me. My rancid belches are evidence of that. They could knock a buzzard off a sh*t wagon.
31. With regard to certain things, I trust my gut. It's never failed me.
32. In all of the ways that it's good for me, my Give-A-Damn's so busted, by now, that it's actually a fine powder.

For anyone who's lost anyone, my heart goes out to you. Cry until you have no tears left. Then, think about the times that made you laugh. Therein lies a lot of healing.

OSB..sorry to hear about your brother. Im the youngest of 8 and couldnt even tell you where my siblings live. Glad you still have your sister close by.
Sunshine...4 inch hells? Really? I would love to wear 4inch heels all the time but they dont go well with all the Canadian snow we get(lol). Even if i wore them i would still be shorter than you without heels. As for the boobs, im 34 and still waiting for mine to grow in.

Bless you guys for the sympathy. My cousins on my mom's side grew up as one family - my sister and I would land up there every summer - anyway in Tamil there's no word for cousin, just sibs. Eventually we all got jobs all over the globe and didn't get together so often, but would pick up conversations where we left them off 5 years back. This cousin was my brother in my heart (and I think, in his). Saw him last a month before he died. Apparently a sudden heart attack. Out of the blue. He was 44.
A few months later my aunt visited... and (after refusing to let me make a copy of her son's picture) told my mom "if someone had to die why my son, why couldn't it have been one of your kids?" ...I know that's likely grief talking... but how could anyone say that to a sister?? Does grief have to be so soul-destroying?
My bad perhaps, but I haven't felt very 'extended-family-cohesive' ever since. Which makes me feel a bit alone and marooned on a far off shore.

Sorry, that wasn't a very good post for the 'fun' page, was it? Ouch. Aiigh. Really my bad.
...4 inch heels. I sooo wish. Has anyone heard a blues riff called "High Heel Blues"? (maybe by Tuck and Patti, though I heard it on the radio sung acapella by someone else). Hilarious. Thought it was a documentary.....

Feel free to share whatever you have to say! It's ok! I like the whole "cousin is sibling" idea. That is nice! I really miss my siblings. I live across the country now which I am really growing to regret. sunshine: I was very entertained with yours! LOL You wouldn't happen to know french would you?

I know a little, that was one of the easier languages. I have a dicitionary, right here, if you need a (rough) translation.

OOh, I forgot one: I love, love LOVE cold weather, and I don't mind it stranding me, as long as it strands me at home. (Pisses me off that I can't wear the heels when it's all icy and stuff, though).
Pam - lucky you, Canadian snow...

Sunshine, you're about the only one i know who would use the word "lucky" to describe Canadian winters. As for being stranded...that has happened and usually does 3-4 times a year.

I love being a Canadian but I'm with you Jenaya, I HATE the winter and cold. Every November I tell my husband I don't think I'm going to make it through. Maybe after having a hyster the hot flashes will keep me warm this winter. Can't wait for our annual Florida trip in March already.
