Sine i'm officially menopausal I'm going to grab this thread for my 'recovery period' and 'woes of menopause'. Since many of us have looked into getting the hyster (I'm hoping lassy74 will join me here as well) and we can provide some information on the joys of surgical menopause. I had a really rough night last night. Pain wise I have been doing awesome. I still have the usual aches of endo here and there but nothing like I had. The pathology report came in and my uterus was covered in endo like we though. the official diagnoses of course is Adenomysosis (endo in the muscle of the uterus) I had a large endometrioma on my remaining ovary. This is the cyst that three doctors looked at the ultrasound and said it was only a functional cyst. stupid doctors! so anyways last night I went to sleep early like I have been doing. I was to tired to stay awake any longer and I woke up about every hour either with a hot flash or night sweats. I will be showering every morning now I guess ;D I would either be flushing from the tip of my head to the tip of my toes or breaking out in a cold sweat. This is the first night this has happened so apparently any stored hormone is now gone. I have the option of going on a super low dose of HRT and progesterone. BUT what was the point of taking out the ovary if I go back on the HRT"S? My ovary wasn't healthy though so that is a consideration. Lots to think about...

I have been taking a low dose of estrogen and have not had any side effects at all. I have been taking it since I started getting Lupron shots and just have continued on after my hyster.
I have thought about trying to go without, but I really just want to try to start living a normal life. I am worried about trading the pain and fatigue from endo for menopausal symptoms. I may still try it though. My mom is 61 and menopausal and has only had maybe 1 hot flash. She has never had any other problems and doesn't take any medication. I've heard you normally follow what your mother has gone through so I may get lucky. But, I know that surgical menopause is much more sudden than natural menopause. Still not sure what to do.
I am normally very cold all the time, and with winter coming here in Canada maybe a few hot flashes might help me out!

Natural menopause and Surgical menopause are supposed to be very different. I'm still undecided about HRT''s. My doctor would like me to go on some at some point in time becuase its bad for our systems to be without it for such a long period of time. However I know there are women who go into menopause in their early 30. so i have some research to do. I just ordered the book. "what your doctor doesn't tell you about surigcal menopause." I'll puruse it and give a short synapses of what it says.

Today i have been fighting the blues. I think I forgot my prozac yesterday so I'm blamming that. I have been fighting crying for no reason and a feeling of helplessness but I figure with what my body has been through its probably pretty darn normal. AND sometimes a good cry is neccessary for healing. Pain wise... I'm doing awesome. Im even considering leaving off the percoset today and sticking with the 800mg. Ibuprofen. I'm really tired of the way the narcs make me feel and the pain so far hasn't been worth the side affects which is great! I'm having a little trouble with hot flashes but I had been having that problem before the surgery, its just slightly magnified now. I'm moving around so well that its a little scary. My last surgery I couldn't roll out of the bed on my own. I'm going to have to be really careful to allow myself to heal the full six weeks!

Allow me to whine briefly... I woke up this morning in SO... much pain. I had to go to the bathroom and I had waited to long so It started hurting like it does. I could barely walk and got there and my hubby had gone in just before. I was sleeping to hard to realize he was up and gone from the bed. We only have one bathroom right now (second one is coming soon, hopefully once the kitchen remodel is done) so I hunched over the table in agony waiting until he was done. This is the worst the pain has been since that first night after the surgery. We had to get some groceries so I did the percoset. The grocery store crip carts were used up so I gave up and my son helped me back to the car so my hubby could finish shopping. Why is Hubby's can never find the same stuff I buy every week. Do you think the store hides it on them? LOL anyways I'm hot flashing pretty constantly right now, but its not actually that bad. I dealt with hot flashes through all three preganncies so I'm pretty used to it. The break through pain today is what's getting me. I feel like I'm cramping but I have nothing to cramp with?? Phantom cramps I guess? I did get a little exercise which is what I was lacking yesterday and it definietly helps with my mood swings as well as making me able to rest. It can be hard to talk yourself into walking but it sure is necessary. Keeps the bowels moving and the body much stronger. I can just tell i'm doing better all around then I did last time and I really think my trying to get in shape since the last surgery is making a difference. ;D

[glow=red,2,300]HOT FLASH!![/glow] ;D ;D ;D The flashes aren't to bad yet, nothing I can't live with. The wonky memory is kind of fun. I don't know if I should blame 3 surgeries with anestheia in one year or the menopause. I keep having these blank moments where I have no clue what time of year it is or what day it is. I'm also on Narcs. so I could blame them too. LOL I keep having what i'm calling 'phantom cramps' since i have no uterus to cramp but it feels like cramps Lassy 74 did you have these as well?? I have to say a week out my incision looks great! Its healing very well. I have a ten day post-op with dr. sublette on friday. I'm moving around mostly okay and managed to get to my sons soccor game today. I'm pretty wasted now but he was sure happy I got to go. I'm still having a terrible time emptying my bladder. It hurts to pee if I wait longer then a few seconds to go and I feel like its not fully voiding either. I'll be asking about that at the appointment and if I don't get a real good answer I'm going to try and get into a urologist. I'm very tired of feeling like I have to pee pretty much constantly. This is also a sign of menopause so maybe its just going to be life from now on, but I'll get it checked just in case!

Hmm, you might have a bladder infection - worth looking into! Or perhaps all the swelling internally may be causing your bladder/ureter to have problems. Whatever the case, not fun! Happy reading (and retaining info on narcs!)

I was on to many antibiotics to have an infection. They will probably check it again but I think the 'retaining urine' is a bigger issue. don't know why that is happening? Constant peeing is a menopausal thing though so??? I don't know

oh man, I'm getting used to the hot flashes by now and they are not bad. the pain is nothing compared to what I had been living with daily My incision dosent even hurt at all I'm a little light headed from all the narcs but having the mecclazine on hand helps so much My only complaint is my bowels and bladder!!! If it wasn't for them I'd feel like I was just having a grand vacation from house work. The hubby is picking up some Colace for my constipation issues. Obviously the narcs are backing up the system and[glow=red,2,300] HOLY CRAP[/glow] does that hurt. Note: Do NOT get constipated when recovering from hysterectomy.

okay, SO i read through most of the book and I'm not super impressed. Its just a big long "use progesterone" only it takes 350 pages to do it! now I know many people have tried the progesterone cream without super sucess and I was hoping for something a little more. So I guess that was a waste of money.
