Had my lap on Monday. It went well! Doc found two spots of endo, but my reproductive organs looked good (he told my husband when showing him pics of my ovaries and stuff that I was a "beautiful girl"! Ha!). I also had some weird scarring on my right bowel that isn't endo related. He thinks it may have been caused by an infection which we'll discuss at the post-op.
But I have to say . . . I feel terrible! I was nauseous after the op, so I didn't go home for about 6 hours after the surgery ended. The next morning I felt great, so we went for a mini-walk. But, by the nighttime on the second day I was nauseous again! I had horrible pain under my ribcage too. I called the doc and they told me the pain meds probably constipated me, so they recommended Milk of Magnesia. Now I have diarrhea, pain, and a rash on my belly (not by the incisions, oddly). Is any of this normal? Should I be taking GasX with the laxative? Seriously, what helps get rid of this gas pain?
I feel like such a weakling!

First off, give yourself some time to recover! I think most of us were shocked at how crappy we felt after a lap! I can't give you much advice on the gas, but I had a nice, square rash over my entire belly for a good week or two. I believe it was a reaction to the draping adhesive and/or the iodine to clean the area. I also had a square rash at every stingle one of the monitor pad thingies. Not fun! Might be worth at least talking to your doc about it. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Karen, are you allergic to latex? I know they arent supposed to use latex anymore, but i always react to sticky stuff anyway! wierd huh.
cd, I feel for you a bunch. Isnt it strange after all that stress and pain, we have to deal with annoyances like constipation, rashes, and icky scabs. For the constipation issue, I tried MOM one time, it was awful, now i drink either Yogi Tea 'Get Regular' or Traditional Medicinals "Smooth Move' each night before bed it has Senna and is WAY milder and easier to deal with than medicines. I just steep the tea for a minute though, if it steeps too long it tastes awful. The 'get regular' is tastier too than the other. good luck girl!

No, I don't think I'm allergic to latex, but I'm super sensitive to stuff. Lotions, detergents, body washes, etc. My hands are always covered in eczema, just a matter of how bad. I think it's the adhesives. My dad has issues with band-aids, too.
After my lap/while on pain killers, I was more constipated than I've ever been! Not fun! I've had better luck with senna than anything.
Take it easy!

Yeah I second that now! Take it easy! 42 day post op I am still just my 70%, I had severe endometriosis. For the gas pain, I actually thought all the gas has leaked out but after a few days I had this strong muscular kind of pain under my right rib cage, I actually thought it was something else, but the next day it moved to my shoulder and in next few days it went off on its own! Also it took a week or two for my bowels to act normal again. Wish you an early recovery!

Thanks, ladies, for your help!
I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who's experienced a rash (not that I wish a rash on you). I have a call into the doc to see if I can get a topical agent or something for it (hydrocortisone is not working and Benadryl pills make me anxious), but we have flooding in WI right now so the doctor's office isn't sure when the nurses will get back to me due to being short on staff.
I am gonna get some of that tea you ladies suggest. The Milk of Magnesia isn't too bad, but I don't really want to be taking laxatives for a long time. Tea sounds like a better choice. I can't wait for the achiness under my right ribcage to go away!

Oh the things we go through! im 6 days post op from my second lap. I had it done privately and I ended up having to stay overnight and most of the second day as well as I was still vomiting... not good when you have 3 wee holes in you, can barely move and are leaking blue dye! I went into my clinic yesterday to have my stitches out, and also got a enema for my troubles as I let it slip that I had not had a bowel movement... for 7 days. Even that took a good hour to take effect, no amount of pacing would speed things up. Still feeling very average and it seems that im fighting off a bladder infection now...was feeling all ok till this afternoon, when 3pm hit, and all of a sudden I felt very shakey and sick, thank goodness work is cruisy and I am self employed. After the first lap last year, it took me a good 3-4 weeks to recover, (I was riddled with endo, bowels, pouch of douglas, colon etc) where as this time I am just feeling odd, swollen and fragile. Doesnt help that my husband is away for a few months overseas In my next life im coming back as a cat.

Hello! Just wanted to repost in case anyone else gets a RASH after surgery. Well, when I went in for my post-op a week after the surgery and the doc saw my "rash", he likened it to FIRST DEGREE BURNS all over my abdomen from the adhesive tape and drape! Yah! It hurt like hell! So he gave me cream that burn victims use. The redness isn't completely gone (3 weeks post-lap), but the cream is definitely working on it.
And as for the constipation . . . I love LOVE Yogi's Get Regular Tea! Thanks sooooo much for the suggestion! (Much better than Milk of Magnesia which is kind of painful and makes you pee from your anus.)

Hi I'm really new to this board. I am 2 weeks post-lap surgery. I was wondering what your periods were like after surgery? I haven't been this moody with PMS in years! I'm crying at everything. What hormone would cause that? (and is it good or bad) -Pix

Hi there! I had the tail end of my period during surgery and went on Provera straight after so I haven't actually had a period since December! I've just come of the Provera though so I'm dreading the next one. I've been very very weepy the last few days though! A lap does mess around with things though, so I wouldn't expect things to be exactly back to normal straight away.
Would you like to post an intro in the newbie section so we can find out more about you?

I felt similar after my lap. My doc suggested it could be due to several things, from anestesia, pain meds, and even (as she described) angry ovaries from being moved around and handled during the lap! Any chance you started any new form of hormonal treatment around the same time, too?
Oh, and I started Mirena post-lap so I didn't get periods, can't quite comment on those. But I know there are several threads on it, though they may be buried a bit.
And I second Helen - feel free to post an intro post in the intro board. We'd love to get to know you!

Hi Pixie,
I'm two and a half weeks post-lap and have been going through the same thing, crying, moody, flying off the handle for no good reason. I can normally find my rationale after I've thought things through in peace but it's been a very bumpy ride. My Aunty Helin (brought me up) had to deal with my sis getting loads of ops (unrelated to endo) and swears that the come-down effects after anaesthetic can be super gnarly and long-lasting, so I'm putting my bad moods down to that. The best thing I do (natural girl all the way) is take vitamin B every morning which helps to balance you out, and also if I'm feeling a bit fragile or spinny then I take rescue remedy or crisis remedy which are from the Bach Flower Remedies range and as far as I know are available worldwide from pharmacies.
My period is not due for another fortnight (think I'm ovulating) and I do normally become marginally irrational around then but this is something else! My sweet, long-suffering bf Adam dealt with it beautifully!
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is I think it's normal from what I hear/read. Osteopathy helps me heaps too, gives me instant relief and puts me into a bit of a dream state for a while so I'm a bit more mellow. Normally I'm really quite laid back and stuff, but yeah, good old endo and it's fun complexities aye?! Good luck, I hope that helps.
H.

I am now almost 5 weeks post lap (my 2nd one), i have been having a bit of a rough time, had some bleeding last week that was awful! Super moody, super crampy, and talk about feeling like i got hit by a bus. I'm starting to get a bit worried, i think i'm just being paranoid or I've gotten stiffed with another bum doctor. My back has started to hurt again, i've been having little cramps since period stopped and now the stabbing pain where my left ovary is... it's back. Not as bad thank god, but it's getting a tiny bit worse every day. I'm not sure what to do. I feel lost and at the end of the line. I feel like i've tried everything there is to get well, and i just keep getting worse. I was a bit worried about the bleeding but it has gone away, now it's just the pain. How long did it take for your pain to go away? My first lap i was pain free about 3 weeks after surgery and stayed that way for nearly a year! This lap was a lot harder on me, recovery took way longer, air hurt more, and i also have to have a talk with the hospital as i woke up with a black eye and a split/fat lip ... humpf. If my bleeding starts up again doc suggested i start taking a birth control pill with my implant i have already ( i can't find the risks of this ). I've done it before, it helped very minimally, no bleeding, but never nipped the pain in the butt. All i want in life is to be off pain meds and live pain free. I am starting school again in the fall and i'm trying to get myself fixed by then Any suggestions? Am I just being a worry wart with pain starting again?
