OH. You can have insulin resistance and not have PCOS! It's just that it is really common in women who do have PCOS. But there are even TONS of men who have insulin resistance. It has to do w/ belly fat, too. There is a waist-hip ratio that is a pretty good clue.

Hi, misa. Fat in the middle is a classic PCOS sign. Have you thought about trying the diet?

Hey Ouchy Well on quitting the pill, I drummed it into myself that I need to take control of my cycles so I did a low GI diet I ovulated every month on my own on day 19. After falling off the diet I gained 20 lbs (from 10 stone to 11 stone and half - Im only 5 foot 3) I stopped ovulating! I didnt realise weight had such a drastic effect. I went back on the low GI but not strictly enough to lose weight and my ovulation was still very irregular. Losing the weight again and can feel my body going back to normal again! No more all month egg white cervical fluids, nausea and breast tenderness. When my hormones were bad I felt like I was on the verge of ovulating ALL MONTH! It was horrible and made me feel ILL! Can I just ask you hun, do people with PCOS ovulate on their own? I usually always will ovulate within 3 months even in my bad stages (weight gain, bad diet, stress)

misa!!!! You sound just like me!!!!!!! It's not necessarily the weight issue, it's also mainly the sugar issue! Your GI diet got you ovulating bc it reduced your sugar. That is why doctors commonly proscribe diabetes medicine for PCOS. I would normally always have a "period" within 3 months, but I have no idea whether or not I ovulated--didn't chart back then. If I control my blood sugar, either through diet or diabetes meds, I have a nice ovulation (cd 16-19). If not, I can go months and also feel like I'll ovulate at any time! Even my LH strips (OPK's) show that I get soooooooo close and then don't ovulate. That is part of my problem. Elevated LH:FSH ratio. Sucks! Some women can be skinny, skinny and not ovulate properly. I used to be 114 pounds and still have 3 month cycles. It's all about sugar control! I'm sure you realize that 3 months for ovulation is NOT normal if you're not on b.c. pills or some other hormonal treatment. It's not a "normal" cycle.

Hey Ouchy! Wow I really didnt realise it was about the sugar control! It does make sense! After going back on the diet my hormones normalise within 3-4 days. How amazing aye? Our health is just in the palm of our hands. Doesnt it feel awful that you may just ovulate at any time? The headaches! The moods! The breasts! Lol, they do hurt. I dont even do well on white breads and white sugars. Back on diet now and will let you know. I dont really find it so so hard to lose weight, I will lose it easily with exercise and dieting. You?

You dont need to lose now with baby on the way Do you still maintain a sugar free diet? This is totally unrelated but I was having a thought...my endo pain has really improved since acupuncture and I was wondering whether pain was a reflection on the disease...I know they say it isnt as some people have bad endo and virtually no pain, but to go from having very very bad pain to having no pain must be a good sign? I had a lap in Jan, first one, so I really do not know whether I have got worse or better, although I will go for another ultrasound in a few months to see if that chocolate cyst has shrunk...

Hey, misa. LOL. I"m not trying to lose weight right now. Unfortunately, that is happening, though, because my appetite is non-existant! Hopefully in the next week or so it will pick back up! Yep. You can't judge the amount of endo by the severity of the pain. Some people have only a spot or two and have excruciating pain. My cousin had stage IV and had no pain during periods, even with sex! Each stage has people who have excruciating pain and also people who have no pain. It's weird, huh! They say that it's more the location of the implants that causes pain. That kinda' makes me mad that he didn't try to remove what little he saw during your operation!!! Always ask up front of it's strictly a diagnostic lap or diagnostic and treatment. Sorry he didn't even try to get any!!!

It was private and I was paying for a diagnostic lap only lol £2000. The NHS didnt want to help me at all. They said I wasnt eligible for a lap and just pain killers. So I paid. Im guessing Ill have to return for an op. Hopefully I will be able to conceive naturally without the op but I know choc cysts interfere with pregnancy, esp if they are over 3cm and mine was at 2.8cm. My boyfriend was horrified at the size of that. He said you have to do something to help yourself! No red meat allowed. Lol. He heard me saying it was bad. I do worry that Ill be dependant or disabled with it, my worse fear. Then I always think there is surgery... Its a worry. Glad its all going well for you with the pregnancy!
