Bearing down may make it worse you know, whenever I have pains tensing is not an option it hurts so much. When I was younger I was a very heavy bleeder and used to bear down, thinking I was pushing it all out and getting it over with faster, I told my GP that once and he looked at me like I'd said something awful. He just said I mustn't do it and I was making things worse, but didn't elaborate how. If you feel the need to do something when the pain starts, trying patting or rubbing your tummy, concentrating on that can help a little. Plus it can help relax any tensed tummy muscles xx
