GUIDELINES FOR THE BOARD
These Guidelines have been put forward by members of the board.
-----------------------------
GUIDELINES:
1. Please use the search function (located at the top of the page) or skim over the threads before asking a question or starting a new thread so you don't duplicate topics. If you don't have time to do this, don't be afraid to post, but realize you may get fewer responses if your topic has been discussed before.
2. Please do your best to make your posts easy to read. Your posts don’t have to be perfect, and we realize some members of the board may not speak English as a native language, but we can all do simple things like using punctuation, avoiding abbreviations/acronyms (except when the word or phrase being abbreviated was already mentioned in its entirety within the post), and not typing in all capital letters unless it is appropriate (on the internet this is considered to be shouting and often overwhelms people).
3. When you first join the forum, post your background information in the "introduce yourselves" section. That way you don't have to explain your whole life history every time you post, and other people don't have to read your life history a million times over. That's what we have that room for!
4. Try to put your thread in the right section. If you’re not sure where it goes or it seems to fit equally well in more than one place, put it on the general board.
5. Please try to stay on topic. If you feel like veering significantly from the topic being discussed, consider starting a new thread (or joining an older discussion) in the section where that thread belongs.
6. Try to respond to new people, even if it's just to say "welcome."
7. On the flip side, if you are new, don’t wait for a welcome before posting again. We like people who just jump right in!
8. When sharing medical information, try to let people know where you came across this information rather than just stating it as a fact. Did you read it somewhere? Did your doctor tell you that? Did you figure it out from personal experience? Is it just a guess you’re making based on what you already know? There is so much information out there—much of it contradictory—so just giving a general idea about how you know something is very helpful to others who are feeling confused by all they have heard.
9. At present none of our members are medical professionals. Sometimes the best advice comes from other people who are going through what you are going through, but remember to research any advice you receive on here before you follow it.
10. Please consider putting things such as your location in your profile. It helps people to know what sort of advice to give you if they know what country you live in, and having profiles also helps us build community on the board.
------------------- END -----------------
Footnote:
Members should not report anyone for failing to follow the guidelines. They are not intended to be strictly enforced and are not worth bothering the administrator over. If you feel someone’s post is confusing people then you may send the person a private message POLITELY asking her to read the guidelines, but don’t make a big deal out of it. If you post a public reply asking someone to follow a particular guideline and the person edits her post to eliminate the problem, please delete your post that asks her to do this.
PS. Please also read the RULES for this Message Board which you will find in the 'News & Announcements Admin' area. Thanks
Carolyn
