Has anyone heard of 5 HTP? I think it's an amino acid you can take that is supposed to be as beneficial as meds without the same side effects?
Has anyone taken it while using other supplements or medications?

I take then since maybe 1 1/2 months.
I like it, i stopped crying for nothing!!!!!
But my pharmacist said to be careful the first 2 weeks and pay attention to you're moods, it is natural but it all depends on your body type. You can get worse if you body doesn't need it.
But if it work for ya go ahead cuz it helped allot.

Thanks for your comments.
I really want to try it, but I'm taking so many other supplements, and I'm in the middle of a liver detox, so I'm worried it won't work well with the other stuff. I'm just going to have to pray on it, or hope that the answer comes to me in a dream or something.
I know antidepressants won't be any better for me. I haven't "cried for nothing" in a few weeks, but I have extreme sadness and lack of motivation. I need something, because I don't like my life being so unproductive and melancholy. Positve thinking has helped, but not enough.

I haven't heard of the 5 HTP...where do you get it? I have been so depressed and unmotivated and reclused for about a month now. I am taking hormones, anti-depressants, anxiety meds and even a narcolepsy med just to stay awake and to get out of bed. I would love to have SOMETHING to help deal with the realization that my endo is back!! Any advise would help. E-mail me if you like..moda102500@aol.com

I have taken 5 HTP and it did nothing for me but make me jittery. I take Remeron now and it helps a lot. I sleep A LOT better and I can actually eat. It also takes care of all the IBS-like stomach symptoms I have which had gotten so bad my BMI dropped below normal. I've taken every AD out there and this is the only one I can tolerate. It also helped me put on 4 pounds (I know it's not a lot but it's something.)

I have learned so much from reading your posts. I have ibs and have felt so embarressed by it. I haven't known whether it was connected to the endo or not, but you all have opened my eyes. THANKS!

Meka,
Very interested to know about your liver detox. Are you doing your own thing or through a program in town? I am in LA as well and know of some good ones, but i want some more details or good sources...

Another mood helper is St. Johns Wort. There are many good sites out there with info on St. John's Wort. You just can't take it if you're on birth control (it affects the effectiveness of the bcp).
My boyfriend took 5HTP for a while, and he found it helped. Many people who use Ecstacy use it when they are coming down from the drug to balance their saratonin (since E messes it up badly).
Both are generally available at any health food stores, or the supplements section of a drug store.
