Hello, Just wanted to ask if anyone has suffered from mood swings (crying and always upset/miserable) from taking the pill? I was taking Depo (shot) for 6 months, then Min Ovral (pill) then Cyclen (pill) for a period of 2 years. I recently went off the pill, and now refuse to ever do it again (due to the severe mood swings). It helped with the pain (I went from one pack to the next to avoid having a period) but I would rather have the pain then to be a B#$@* all the time. Am I normal?

I have tried 4-5 different birth control pills over the past 2 1/2 years since I was diagnosed with endometriosis and have undergone 2 laparotomies. The only pill that did not produce awful feelings of depression, anxiety, hopelessness, detachment, lack of motivation, weight gain, irritability, etc. was Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, which unfortunately was not strong enough to keep things under control. I think that some people just cannot do birth control and shouldn't force themselves into believing that they need to. Everyone's body reacts differently and I have just had to give up on the idea of being on the pill. I am currently researching diets for endometriosis to see if this will help at all. Good luck to you and all that are out there struggling to cope with this same issue. I completely empathize and please feel free to e-mail me at any time just to vent or chat, or whatever. My e-mail is zapatona@msn.com. -AimeƩ

I had my right ovary removed two years ago due to endo, and ever since then I have lost all of my energy, and sex drive. I am currently on the birth control patch to supress the endo, but I agree with Aimee . . . the pill isn't for everyone and I don't think it's for me but what other options do I have? I feel hopeless. Chance you are not alone! When they had me treated with the Lupron shot/progestrone, I was in such a deep depression. I jeopordized my friendships and my job with the horrible mood swings. If anyone wants to talk please email me @ stereololita@yahoo.com ~ amy

So the shot made you go into a deep depression? Because since I started taking them I just want to cry and I am short with everyone! But Im still hurting and my doctor seemed to think this would work for me! There is some days I dont think I would get out of bed if it wasnt for my three kids! And I hate feeling that way!

I'm so glad I'm not alone. I have tried several different bc pills, the patch, the Nuvaring, and the depo shot. My hormones go all out of whack. They have tried a couple of hormone replacements with the Lupron injections and they don't help. I just start to cry for no reason, I am short with my husband and daughter, and feel like I've deserted all my friends because I can't stand to be in public places where I have to deal with crowds. I get agitated so easily. I now have an understanding of what is going on. I hope to find some way out of it, because I hate living like this.

I just got back from having a hysterectomy. I had it ALL removed and am on a hormone patch. We'll see if there is a difference in a couple weeks. I still got agitated with my husband and with nurses in the hospital. This will be a change. They have the best intentions, but do not underestand the female or its body, I mean the husband. I'll let you know how it works. Lynette

I discovered a few years ago after I had my son that birth control pills for the 11 years prior was what caused my depression. It is actually a pretty common side effect, but even therapy and drug treatment no one ever suggested it was the birth control. After my son was 10 months old I tried the patch and it practically caused me to have a nervous breakdown with allthe crying and inability to function right. I was in my head saying "why are you upset, what is wrong with you" but I couldn't control the outbursts etc. Thats when I realized what the problem was. I no longer use hormonal bc and it is so much better. I am trying the mirena IUD but the hormones are supposed to be localized and not systemic, we'll see.

Good luck with trying the Minera. I can totally understand the hormonal instability. I hope you are able to find something that works. I have just had a total hysterectomy and removed both ovaries, because of the endo pain. I tried so many different birth controls, and know I have been depressed. The doctors tried to give me anti-depressant medication and my husband would tell me that wasn't right. Now I get to find a hormone replacement therapy that works. I felt great for the first 2 weeks and now am going into a slump again. Sorry to vent. Janet good luck with finding a birth control that won't cause the mood swings. Lynette
