I have never heard of this test before but my neurologist ordered it today for some reason. I didn't know there was a blood test for wheat gluten allergies so I figured I could pass the information along. I've had the stomach biopsy for coeliac disease but never a blood test. Has anyone else heard of this test or had it done? I know a lot of us have issues with wheat and it would be nice to know that there's a blood test for it!

Yes, I was just looking at mine a few minutes ago, as I'm getting ready for my appointment. I wish I could give you some information. *sorry* They told me mine was negative but I believe what I actually got was a weak positive. One more thing to remember to ask about I guess.

Lol Pretty. what I don't get is why he tested it if my stomach biopsy was negative. I wonder if this antibody can cause some neurological symptoms too. It's pretty interesting I guess. He also ordered levels on zinc, copper, pyruvate, lactate, and vit D. I have no idea what in the world he's looking for. Lol

My neurologist called me today and told me my test was positive. I'm freakin' blown away. He said that when your body produces this antibody to gluten, the antibodies can also attack other tissues. In my case, they attacked my brain!
I know I shouldn't be surprised by this but I am! I am so surprised that something that I have been eating has been causing my body to attack my brain. This is just further proof that diet changes can make a world of a difference!!
Looks like I have celiac disease but for me, it's causing attacks on my brain more than my GI tract. CRAZY!!! I'm just so shocked! Finally an answer to all of those brain lesions!! WOW. I feel like this is some weird episode of mystery diagnosis where I walk in with brain lesions and I come out with a freakin food allergy that caused my body to attack my central nervous system.
I'm still just shocked but I'm so happy because the other cause to the lesions would have been MS. I don't need to do a spinal tap anymore! YAY!!

It's funny because I knew from doing the endo diet that I was sensitive to wheat but holy crap! I had no idea HOW sensitive! Wheat gluten has been the hardest thing for me to give up. Now I have to if I want to save my poor brain.
I'm still shocked!!!

You know when I went off gluten in 2009 I found tons of websites that had great suggestions for fighting the NO WHEAT blues. Since this is going to be a way of life for you getting some help from some of them might be a good idea?

I've already started my quest of online research. This is just nuts! I'll look for those sites. Thanks for the suggestion. I guess this is good in a few different ways. It'll help my endo too!

Ha ha, WHO KNEW?? And big props to your doc for even testing for it!! Do you have full blown Celiac, or just a gluten sensitivity? I don't recall the difference but I know there is one. Wow, well, cross one more question off the list... And it's something that you can fix! Any chance your lymph nodes have anything to do with that, too???

Wow! I never knew that could happen. I have a friend who have severe Celiac, but it's affects her GI track. I'm glad that you found out Jenaya.

I have to follow up with my GI to test it further. I have no idea what this all means except that I have to go on a gluten free diet noww. I wondered about the lymph node thing too. My poor brain! It's so weird to finally know the answer to all those mysterious brain lesions. There were at least 100 of them. It's quite a freaky sight to see! I'm so happy my neurologist never gave up on me. I feel so lucky. he said I may need an allergy test too so I guess I'll address that after the birth of George. geez so weird! I can't stop feeling weirded out by it!
